A story that can fit in any time or any year. Officer Vega chasing a suspect or is he a suspect sees the person put his hand in his pocket and he fires a shot killing it turns out an unarmed man. Now with the backing of no one including his girlfriend who is questioning as well, he must investigate this by himself. He is also still dealing with the unsolved murder of his mother. so many topics here with illegals or what people want to call people illegal, how they are taken advantage of by coyotes, and then when they arrive here. A good story with many good characters.

No Witness but the Moon by Suzanne Chazin seems so relevant to current events, yet it was written four years back. The characters, the storyline, the pacing were all great and held my interest throughout. I Recommend.

A good, fast paced mystery. This is the 3rd book in the series which I haven't read previously, but would like to look into.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for this free readers edition. In exchange I am providing an honest review.

In this third installment in the Jimmy Vega series it is Jimmy himself under investigation. After being involved in a suspect shooting Jimmy is suspended and faces a possible Grand Jury investigation into the death of an innocent undocumented immigrant. Anyone who knows Jimmy should know he wouldn't shoot recklessly but those who know him are doubting him so Vega finds himself alone.

In the small world we live in it turns out Vega's dead suspect is intertwined with questions he has about his mother's own suspicious death from a few years ago. Are they really connected and if so, how? Why? And did he really kill that man? It doesn't seem like he could have with the way the situation was playing out but there was nobody else, was there? Jimmy has got to find answers and the sooner the better.

I enjoyed this fast paced thriller by Suzanne Chazin. The "pulled from the headlines" feel to this was certainly thrilling. A police officer kills an unarmed man in the process of pursuing a robbery suspect. This book seems to pull all of the punches and lets you see things from the police officers point of view. Illegal immigration, police brutality, politics, this book has a lot going on, and it's all done very well..

Still one of my favorite series but I'm ready to fire Adele and Joy. Their less than loyal attitude to Jimmy is getting annoying. I get Adele being tied to the issues each book has covered however Joy needs to play the daughter role more rather than always somehow being part of the problem. While I still love the relationship between Jimmy and Adele, it's going to start growing stale if Adele doesn't start being more of a supportive girlfriend. Excellent read!

I forgot to check to make sure this wasn't in the middle of a series and since it was I never read it. Sorry but I like to read in order and so never got to this novel.

This is the first book I have ever read by Suzanne Chazin and I absolutely loved it. Because of the world we live in, everyone lives under a microscope, including the police. So when a police officer shoots an unarmed man, it makes national news. This story is about a police shooting. It is also about illegal immigrants, which is another hot topic in America. So combine these two hot topics and you get a story that keeps you riveted to the pages.

This was a powerful timely novel with all that is happening in the world today. This is the first book I have read from this author but it won't be my last. Jimmy Vega, a veteran police officer shoots a man in the line of duty. The author gives us great insight into the feelings of a police officer and the issues that they face when they shoot a suspect in the line of duty. The suspect the protagonist shot was an immigrant and the author delves into the plight of the undocumented immigrant. The story was dark and suspenseful with well-developed characters, even if a bit flawed at times. I would highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've somehow managed to read several books lately that deal with police brutality and racism against immigrants without realizing beforehand that they covered these topics. I'm not complaining, though. Books like this one are becoming increasingly more important in today's society. And the fact that Chazin managed to combine social commentary with a clever mystery is just a plus.

I liked the earlier Jimmy Vega books but this one did not grab me. Too much rumination and a convoluted, unlikely plot. Jimmy kills an unarmed man and it messes up his life and love and vision of himself. OK. But when this murder ties to an older murder, the chain of coincidences is too hard to believe. I want Jimmy to get back to solving crime.

I received a review copy of "No Witness but the Moon" by Suzanne Chazin (Kensington) through NetGalley.com.

4 stars!
This is a strong and well written nail-biter and reflects a lot of today's headlines. I felt for Jimmy Vega when he realizes he shot an unarmed man and its aftermath it causes. Does the press care about the truth or sensationalism? It's very thought provoking.

I received a review copy from the publisher thru NetGalley for my personal opinion

A look into New York's immigrant population including police and lawyer. Involvement with murder related to crossing from south of the border.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This book leaps very quickly into today’s headlines of police shootings and protests and seemed promising. In the dark of night, Hispanic policeman Jimmy Vega shoots and kills an unarmed Hispanic man suspected to be a participant in a home invasion. Jimmy’s professional life is instantly derailed and his personal life is instantly altered as his girlfriend is a lawyer working with a non-profit Hispanic aid group.

The story has potential, unfortunately it just didn’t hold my interest. The character development is shallow and you never feel a connection to any of them, the dialog was stilted and either stereotypical tough-cop, the infinite similes the author used were annoying at best. In addition, the storyline jumped all over. In the midst of dealing with the happenings mentioned above, he searches for his mother’s murderer, his teen-aged daughter is in the midst of a crisis about her school and later career decisions, and he also has a mid-life crisis wondering what is his life’s purpose. Throw in the political storyline of illegal immigration and it is too much, with none of it done in a satisfying manner.

Very good book, despite some reviews written by people with a bias against LE. (Amazon reviewed).

Ripped from the headlines and all too familiar Jimmy Vega, a police officer, is called to respond to a home invasion at an upscale estate in New York only to find a Hispanic man fitting the description he was given as the armed intruder running into the woods. After yelling to the man to stop in both English and Spanish the man reaches into his pocket, and not knowing if his own life might be at stake Vega shot him. Needless to say this unleashes a myriad of emotions on both sides as we find out that the intruder was an undocumented immigrant. There is also a connection between the dead man and Vega's mother's unsolved murder which Vega is determined to uncover. This book is so important in so many ways. The characters are well drawn, the writing concise, the issue all too prevalent in today's world. It will tear at your gut as it did mine as I felt so many emotions from anger to sorrow to despair to hope. Very controversial issue-excellent portrayal of today's society's problems with guns as well as police reactions under stressful situations such as this.

Most of my thriller/suspense novels are always splashed with a dose of romance, so I’m not sure what I was feeling when I started reading this book. First of, I received a copy of No Witness But the Moon by Suzanne Chazin through NetGalley for an honest review. Here is my quick, YOU need to read this book now “no spoiler” review. 1. Edge of your seat 2. Amazing characters (in my Oprah voice) especially Vega! There are lots of surprises, WTH moments and finally a very well put together ending.
Thank you Kensington Books via Netgalley again for the pleasure!

I didn't review this anywhere online as I didn't finish it and felt it would be inaccurate and unfair to review. I felt the preview in the Buzz Books gave an exciting idea but the actual book was quite slow.
