The first novel in the entertaining Dragon Lords fantasy series.
There's been a welcome trend over the last few years, in which fantasy novels/series take themselves a little less seriously than had become the norm, and injected some much-needed humour into their stories (Nicolas Eames's series comes to mind).

Jon Hollins's FOOL'S GOLD is one of those novels. It's not that the story isn't taken seriously, but the dose of levity helps keep things fresh, fun, and engaging. With the caveat that one author's humour isn't necessarily for everyone, if you're after a fantasy novel with a lighter tone, then I'd give this one a try.
