BIBLION – Raising the Perfectly Imperfect Child, by Boris Vujicic

Prior to his passing away in 2017, Nick Vujicic's father, Boris, left in a book format his experience with a very special son of his who has no limbs. Together with his wife Dushka, the Vujicic have faced an incredible challenge for which they were not ready.

Due to that inexperience and lack of preparation to deal with the birth of an almost completely dependent boy, the life and faith of this couple were put to the test immediately after the birth of little Nicholas.

His expectancies of survival and life quality were minute, but the couple turned to God, dealt with the daily adversity and overcame the initial shock that comes with the arrival of a handicapped baby who was expected to spend his life confined on a wheelchair and in total dependency.

Yet not only did Nick become a “normal” child despite his lack of limbs, but he also managed to embrace a successful career as a motivational speaker, evangelist and writer, influencing the lives of millions around the world, many of them also bearing physical limitations – something his parents never thought it would be possible.

As if that wasn't enough, and to Boris and Dushka's joy, the answer to years of prayers for his son came in the form of his lovely spouse Kanae, and two wonderful grandchildren, Kiyoshi and Dejan (after Boris' death, the Vujicic's were blessed with the twins Olivia and Ellie).

With Nick having a purpose in his life by serving God and being able to raise his own family proves that to God nothing is impossible, and though Boris praises Nick's determination to accomplish these things, it doesn't stop him from giving God all the honor for what He has done in his family's lives.

Boris Vujicic's book does not intend to gloss over the son's success, unlike some may have expected, but it intends to support and become a reference to all the parents with handicapped children and who, like he and Dushka, were not prepared to deal with the special care required by children in these conditions.

Nick did not come with an “instruction manual,” and the Vujicic did not find anyone who had gone through a similar experience and who could help them surpass the daily challenges. It had to be through prayer, through an extraordinary resiliency, through much frustrating “trial-and-error.” This is why this book is important: that its unique experience may help other couples, and that its faith and hope be pillars in the education of other perfectly imperfect children.
