The blurb for this book sounds really awesome, however only a couple of chapters in and I am finding myself annoyed by the run on, and too descriptive sentences that the author uses. Not my kind of writing style it seems, but I am sure others will enjoy, as this does sound like a good mystery/crime novel.

DNF!

After reading two books in a row that was pretty bad did I not feel like adding another one to the list. The story about a professor that kills his whole family should be interesting, however, it's a lackluster novel that lacks compelling characters and instead how trying to find the missing professor is the cop more interested in finding the notebook that contains the book the professor is working on. Also, we get the professors POV during the story's progressed and I mentally groan every time it's time for his POV. The writing is meh, the story is meh and my feeling towards the book is blah!

An excellent read for fans of psychological thrillers or crime books - a gripping story, engaging characters and it was well-written. I would highly recommend!

Not my favorite story - it felt like it took a turn towards sex sex sex partway through, which is fine, but didn't feel necessary for the story.

A standard murder mystery made even more compelling with some well-drawn characters, including a well known author, a flawed copy, and assorted hangers-on. The plot moves quickly from scene to scene, with plenty of detail to draw you in and provide sympathy to this motley crew. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I have a love/hate relationship with crime thrillers at the moment: most of the time, I guess the twist or know things aren’t what they seem – when the twist is revealed, I’m not surprised.

While my gut was telling me that things were not as they seemed in Two Days Gone, I couldn’t figure out what was going on.

A famous writer supposedly murders his entire family before taking off and hiding in the woods. Ryan DeMarco, the detective on the case, has a history with the suspect and can’t believe his friend would commit such a horrendous act of violence. But he has no proof; just a gut feeling as he searches the woods.

Thomas – the writer – also narrates the book. His thoughts are fragments though, overcome with grief and guilt. In his own mind, he is guilty. He has committed a crime and doesn’t want to live with the consequences.

The writing was clever though: I’m not sure that the readers are supposed to believe it, despite the evidence. There is no phrase or paragraph that makes me think that, just the style of writing.

The plot was relatively slow paced – the entire book happens over a few days. While the tension increases dramatically towards the end, I felt the pace continued at the same speed. It helped immerse you in the world and the characters though, so a slow pace is not necessarily a bad thing.

Onto the characters… Ryan is a typically crime-thriller policeman. He’s got his haunted past that drives him to drink and is obsessed with his work because it is the only thing he has going for him. Honestly? I liked him but it felt that I had met his character before.

While I did want him to overcome some of his demons and his commitment to finding the truth was great, his treatment of his colleagues bugged me. He was always rude to them, always swearing and never once appreciating their efforts. At the same time, he recognised when someone was afraid for their job and bolstered them up: he was a good guy but his treatment of his colleagues meant I couldn’t completely connect with him.

I felt Ryan was the only character we got to properly know. While Thomas shares the narration, his mind is such a fractured and grief-stricken place that although you could empathise with him, I – again – couldn’t completely connect with his character.

The murders in this book were horrendous. Not in the sense there is a lot of blood and gore etc, but because they are so chilling. Despite my lack of connection to the characters, the deaths really moved me and made me want the bad guy to truly get his comeuppance, whatever form it took. It was the brutality of the murders that kept me gripped: I had to know who was responsible and if the police could figure it out.

A good book, but not necessarily one to get your heart racing.

risly murder of an entire family. Now the husband, a best-selling author is on the run. Is it even conceivable that he’s responsible for this horrid crime? Is he running because of guilt? Or is he tagged as the next victim?

Thomas Huston is a College Professor and best-selling author. His wife and three children are discovered dead in their home from vicious, devastating knife wounds. Huston himself is nowhere to be found. Hiding out.

Detective DeMarco, a friend and confidant is in charge of the investigation. He is obliged to follow the clues where ever they may lead… even if that points to his old friend Huston. To aid in the investigation, DeMarco cleverly uses excerpts from Huston's own novels to get in the mind of Huston...either a killer or the last victim.

When does a novel become reality? Where do the lines blur between the written word and an author’s brutal reality?

“Had the writer become the character?”

It is heavyhearted. Even borderline depressing. Can a thriller actually be depressing? The characters are all sad and tragic souls, all fighting their own personal demons. Searching for redemption and perhaps a second chance at anything resembling a normal life. Certainly not a book to rush through. It's a slow read that builds in tension. A well-executed dark thriller.

Strong writing and a haunted professor on the run make for a smart, exciting read in this nuanced thriller by Randy Silvis.

Unfortunately I found this book to be pretty standard. It wasn't anything special. I found the writing was strong and I was intent on reading until the end but at every point of the storyline I found it to be predictable, a lot like other books!

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.

What a delectable book! It is so well written and worded. There were so many twists and turns and hidden plots, I really liked it. It is fast paced and left me thinking about it long after I had finished reading it. I loved the characters, they were dark and mysterious, and the ending surprising.

Will definitely be reading more books by this author.

Two days gone begins with the murder of a mother and her three children. The story is told from the point of view of the children's father, who is a bestselling author and professor, and also from the police in charge of solving the case. I really enjoyed both of these characters, although it was clear that both characters are troubled men. Both characters were funny, witty and sarcastic, which made these point of view more appealing for me.

While this book started strong for me, there were times that I felt that I needed to force myself to continue reading. This is a dark book, and. it was slow going, but at the end I'm grateful I stuck with it. I would recommend this book to others, with the forewarning that there is some darkness coming.

This was an amazing read! And not your standard murder mystery. I got lost in the prose of this author. His writing style is superb. I look forward to reading many books from him in the future. I would highly recommend!

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed the character of Ryan DeMarco. He has my kind of humour! The storyline was good but I felt it was a bit slow in places.

Enjoyable read overall - 3.5 stars

It's thrillers like these that remind me why this is my favorite genre in the first place. A story about a teacher murdering his entire family should be the reason anyone picks this up, but also the story and writing itself do the story's premise justice, making for a great read.

Unusual - definitely........I certainly felt sympathy for both the main male characters. The story trundled along at an acceptable pace and did have a few surprises along the way. For me there was just too much dark and not enough lighter moments to balance the book and make reading it a pleasurable experience. In fact I felt quite miserable when I had finished it ! Sorry.

I found this quite repetitive in the same vein as other thrillers like Gone Girl, so I didn't finish it.

This novel depressed me to hell. All the characters are so sad, the story itself (and all characters' private story) is so sad and depressing. I like a dark book every now and then but I think this came at a very wrong point in my life.

This mystery novel was interesting , there were some unexpected turns but also the ending I did not like that much. There were some parts that tooj me by surprise and it kept me interested.

Thomas Huston is a beloved college professor and bestselling author. He lives in a small, Pennsylvania town, with his beautiful wife, and his seeming perfect family. The family is found brutally murdered and Huston has vanished from the house. Of course, he seems the obvious suspect.
Sergeant Ryan DeMarco is in charge of the case. He had previously met Huston several times, when he was researching his latest book. DeMarco admired Huston and also envied him his family and career. He had his own troubles in his personal life, leaving him a lonely & depressed man.
Is Huston capable of such a horrible crime & can DeMarco solve this case?
I have never read anything by Randall Silvis before. I thought that Two Days Gone was a good book, even if it was a tad bit slow for my taste. It definitely has both, a strong beginning & ending.
