Sarah M Eden is amazing at writing this kind of a tale! I love the way she captures the spirit of the Old West, while still throwing in her own take about how the women may have acted!

I have to start by saying I loved the whole plot of this book! I loved the town of Savage Wells, it’s filled with characters. From the lady who uses the jailhouse as her “Ribbon Emporium,” to the man who hangs out in the tree watching for strangers. One of my favorites is the story about the chicken, I had to laugh out loud at that one! Savage Wells has lost it’s previous sheriff and the town decides the only way to get a new one is to hold a competition. Sort of like American Idol meets Old West. I love the whole idea and I really loved the twists and tuns the plot took to get to the ending.

I loved Paisley in this book. I loved that she is willing to try out for the job of Sheriff of Savage Wells, even though she knows that she probably won’t be offered the job. In this time period, it really was a man’s world, and the small town of Savage Wells is no different. The previous sheriff had even taken credit for all of the things that Paisley had done. I loved that Paisley was a complicated character. She was good at doing a bunch of feminine things, but had found that she really loved helping people and the town by being the acting sheriff.

Cade was a great character too. I loved the way he was kind of an anything goes type guy. He was just fine with Paisley trying out to be sheriff, and he quickly gains a respect for her that even the townspeople she’s known for several years don’t have. I really loved the way he flirts with Paisley, even when she has no idea that he could ever care for her, the reader knows just from the things he says and does. He really goes out of his way to care for her and help her in any way that he can. So sweet!

I love this whole Proper Romance line! Each book is great -well-written, great characters, fun plot – you can read it, and then you can pass it on to your teenage daughter, or even your grandma and you don’t have to worry about what’s in it. So amazing!

I enjoy Sarah Eden's books; this one wasn't my favorite of her novels but I still liked it. The premise of an acting female sheriff being overlooked in favor of a male sheriff was interesting and frustrating! I felt the author did a good job of showing the strengths and weaknesses in her main characters and their interactions were engaging and entertaining. Ms. Eden typically writes regency romance stories and this was a fun branch into a new setting. Kudos to her for another successful novel.
