Being a fan of Orange is the New Black and also from Massachusetts, I was interested in Guerrero's story. I had no idea her parents and brother were deported one day while she was at school. Despite their efforts to become legalized, the Guerrero family was deported leaving 14 year old Diane without any family. No one called from Child Services to check on her. No one in immigration stopped to ask themselves how their arbitrary decision would affect a 14 year old girl who is an American citizen.
Diane's story was both heartbreaking and inspirational. The friends who took her in and made sure the failure of the system to protect her redeemed my feelings about humankind. Her success, determination, and advocacy for immigration reform inspires me.
