I started reading this book, before I knew what the plot was. I was genuinely surprised when Mr. Smith changed. Like Phoenix, I was surprised when his abuse started. I like how the author made sure the reader was clued in about the time Phoenix was. It felt like you were right alongside her--- experiencing the abuse with her. Like her I was upset that her mother didn't believe her and instead was too enamored with the new relationship. I was glad her sister had more gumption than she did. I really did like the book!

About Phoenix is a story of what can happen when a flaky mother and an absent father leave their children in the care of a stepfather-figure who turns out to be more than what he seems.

This book was an amazing story of two sisters trying to live through a seemingly impossible situation. It pulled at my heart that they felt so very alone. The sisters were very believable characters and their relationship was the best part of the whole book.
