I have to admit Garrett Leigh is one of my favorite MM writers. Her stories are always heartfelt and beautiful.
In What Remains we have fun easy going web designer Jodi Peters who has an amazing relationship with Rupert who is a firefighter. The two of them have a great relationship and have had for years. The prologue starts in 2014 where tragedy strikes then goes back and forth with present 2014 and back in time 4 years where we get to see how their relationship started and blossomed. Here we get to see the strength of this relationship but then in Part 2 we are in present time again with the reality of the consequence of the tragedy that has affected Jodi and Rupert.
But here we also get to see the struggles and tribulations of them finding themselves together again. It was heartbreakingly beautiful. I loved it.

Sadly on this occasion this wasn’t for me and was a DNF.

Garrett Leigh is the queen of angst.
When I feel like I need to feel my heart crack (which tbh 2016 I couldnt handle the angst) I read Garrett.
But as stated I cant read angst lately due to RL so I havent read this one as of yet. But I will.

This story evoked so many feelings. It was:
Depressing
and
Emotional
But also beautiful. Rupert and Jodie had to get to know each other again and start over after Jodie suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. Rupert's heartbreak was palpable when he realized Jodie didn't remember him. Not only that but we're also given glimpses of their life before the injury. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to stick with it, but soon their relationship started to grow.
Garrett Leigh is a hard author to read. I was always want to read her, and I know I have to prepare myself mentally before starting her books. You know what though the payoff at the end is always worth it.
4 Stars for this exquisitely written hurt/comfort/healing romance.
