The Toad is another book in the "Disgusting Critter" series that aims to educate young children on animals that many find "gross" or "scary." I have previously reviewed other selections such as The Slug and The Rat, and felt that other than The Rat, these books serve to recognize the values in these animals and make them less stigmatized. The Toad accomplishes the same with really funny illustrations about how there are different variety of frogs, how they grow, etc. I was unable to review the book at the time I got my NetGalley copy so I needed a refresher, so I watched a "Read Along" video on YouTube and the reader did different funny voices and sound effects for the pictures which really made the story pop. As always, this series has attractive illustrations and fonts that keep the reader engaged and make the topic more interesting to learn about.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

The toad is the star of this book, which is a wonderful highlight of an often-overlooked and unloved animal. Young readers will enjoy it a lot, and learn in the process!

Visually captivating with interesting, just-right text that is informative and sometimes hilarious. I’m a fan of this kid-friendly non fiction book series!
