At the time of publishing, I am sure this was a very interesting book. No, with Persian cooking being well known.. it seems a little dated when reviewing it. I didnt find anything new or interesting.. so overall wouldnt recommend buying it.

OMG. Yummy. This is one of the best cuisines on earth and this cookbook lets you know how to make it in a simple way. At least it's simple compared to the "old fashioned way". Love it. Read it. Try it.

Beautiful photographs and layout makes this a must get.
Then there are the recipes. Easy to follow, great flavours help bringing Persia's amazing cuisine to beginners and advanced cooks homes.
Add the text.... and its a winner

This is a beautiful book with delicious looking food and recipes. I purchased this book for my son and cannot wait to see what great food he will make from it.

This is a nice-looking book, with some beautiful photographs and recipes from several different countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, and Kurdistan). After reading some good reviews about it in the New York Times and elsewhere, and being interested in those countries, I thought it was promising and decided to purchase it. However, it was quite disappointing on several fronts. The first problem is that in trying to cover 5 different countries, it bites more than it can chew. Also, I expected it to be a cookbook with a personal touch, in a similar vein as the uber popular Jerusalem book (the size and format are quite similar). But I was wrong and I found myself with a book that has a fundamental problem, which is that it doesn't know what it wants to be: a travelogue? a memoir? a food treaty? a historical/anthropological description of food in exotic lands? a cookbook? And so it ends up being none of those, and the personal stories of the author are not compelling or entertaining enough, there aren't enough photos and they aren't that good/beautiful, the research is superficial and the recipes are disappointing in that there are not many of them and in some cases they are not very appealing, and/or they are repetitive as they're just national variations of the same dish. A book with a similar concept but executed in a much better and successful way is Mamushka, mostly about Ukrainian food but also with recipes from the Caucasus and Central Asia. The thing is that in Mamushka the author has a personal connection to the subject matter, the photos and the design are amazing and the recipes plentiful. And even when they are not the most mind-blowing (for example, a simple pickle) they were still visually appealing and interesting to read. I gave the book three stars because I appreciated the concept, but it definitive fell short of its ambitious objectives and this reader's expectations.

I was a little disappointed with this book as I thought it would be more of a cook book than a travel journey. However I will find it useful for when I travel through this region one day and the writing and recipes that were given were wonderful!

Had to wait for a hard copy and it finally arrived! So excited to finally see it. I have a lot of family who are interested in middle eastern cooking and thought this might be the place to start. I love that there is background info on the history of the countries, their people and the food. There are enough recipes to please everyone from condiments t0 meats and vegetables to fruits and breads! It's an interesting read, too!

I was, sadly, unable to read this book. I tried downloading it, but it didn't open at all!

An excellent well-written and detailed book which is more than a simple collection of recipes, but induces wanderlust and curiosity towards a region often in the media for all the wrong reasons.

I love cookery books, especially those which have more than just recipes. I know little about Persian or middle eastern cookery and Naomi Duguid took me on a real journey. To be fair, although I read this as an ebook, it's one which is best savoured in hard copy. Its a book to both turn to for inspiration and to browse for pleasure. It's filled with the most amazing recipes and so much detail about the country and social history. There's even a map to guide the reader!

Beautifully presented with so much colour and recipes which don't require obscure ingredients or hours tied to the kitchen. Since I was kindly offered as an advance copy some months ago, it's a book I've returned to time and time again.

Taste of Persia is not just a cookery book, it is also a very beautiful coffee table book filled with wonderful photographs and insights into the lives of the people living in the countries that were once part of the Persian Empire, Iran, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kurdistan

The recipes sound absolutely delicious and I would buy this book just for the bread section. I have not yet prepared anything from it but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about the cuisines and browsed through all the recipes, whetting my appetite with all the pictures. My daughters would also love this book, even the vegetarians. Although meat and fish recipes are featured, there is also an abundance of meat free dishes.

Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read the book, I'm now going to have to buy a hard copy.

The pictures, alone, make this a wonderful read. The recipes of traditional dishes that cover many different countries, not just Iran, and the stories about the countries made my mouth water. The recipes in this book are heavy on the vegetables but there are plenty of dishes that feature fish, poultry and meat. There is something for everyone in this book.
