I thought the concept around the plot was quite interesting and intrigued me from the summary. Unfortunately I didn’t like a few of the characters and struggled to get through the book due to this.

A quick and easy read, fun, but didn't thrill me. I didn't connect much with Ren, which I think is why I wasn't as hooked as I thought I would be. The other characters were a little cookie-cutter for me which didn't help the problem. I think it's a question of a great premise but with flat execution.

Who should rule the new world? The ancestors of the person who named the star...
not so sure about that..

This was another one of those books that the synopsis sounds amazing but it falls flat. The action in this book was very 1 dimensional for me. I wanted to read this book based off of the synopsis. It made it seem like it was gonna be some awesome futuristic book. Earth is a waste land and they find a new Earth essentially. Of course there are going to be a preexisting species on said new Earth. The characters weren't anything special. I didn't get attached to any of them. I wish the book had gone more in depth with the world building. It just all around could have been a lot better then it turned out.

This was a great adventure. I really enjoyed it! I liked that I couldn't predict the ending.

This was an entertaining enough read with a strong female lead. I read it ages ago forgetting to upload a review at the time but I know I enjoyed it, but obviously not enough to continue with the series.

The Argent Star is the first in the Monarchy series. The daughter of the "King", Ren is uprooted from her plans to become an archaeologist, and left in charge of a formerly lost planet. This planet, discovered and lost many years ago, has now been rediscovered by her brother, Elian. Although Ren is young and insecure, she does grow throughout the novel and fights to prevent an uprising of the insurgents and assassins that inhabit Novae.
This book was a quick and easy read. It did not include too much complex explanation and I enjoyed the cast of flawed characters and their growth over the course of the book. I was a little dismayed at some of the sexism in the book - but it is somewhat balanced by some strong female characters, including the main character, in some situations.
Overall, I gave the book 3 stars. The main character was a little annoying and childish at times, but redeemed herself. There were not a huge number of characters to wade through. Hopefully, the next book in the series will answer some of the questions I have!

An interesting premise, it's hard to follow the main character in this book. Her character is not the most likeable or relatable and neither is her brother. The plot itself is an interesting concept, but could've been fleshed out better with better characters. Its an okay book, not awful, but not necessarily amazing either.
