This is a fairly decent book if you are looking to understand how many of the gains of the civil right movement of the past 60 years have been made null by Supreme Court rulings on affirmative action, fair housing, and equitable schools. He gives a good summary of the racialized climate of college campuses, diversity at the Oscars, as well as how Ferguson, Missouri came to be segregated and overpoliced long before the murder of Mike Brown by an officer. The rest of this book are essays about such topics as being Asian, Beyonce's "Lemonade," and a couple of other things that I kinda dipped in and out of. Not because these topics weren't equally important, but because they didn't necessarily build on the other and what I got out of them (I guess) depended on how previously knowledgeable I was on that topic. For example, I think I've read every think-piece there is on "Lemonade" and I'm just done at this point.

A good book, but I'd wait for this at the library.

A thoughtful and at times provocative collection, well worth the read.
