There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

What I really enjoyed about this book was the atmosphere and the initial fairytale-esque quality that slowly lures you into the story. Unfortunately, I found the second half of the book a bit less enjoyable. After hitting the midway point, the book suddenly turned a lot more violent and gory, which I felt was a bit jarring. It felt almost like a completely different book. Perhaps if this transition in atmosphere had been done a bit more smoothly I might have enjoyed this book a lot more. Still a fun creepy read though, if you're in the mood for a book like that.

It's been over a year since I had requested this one. I tried a chapter and it didn't work for me. I'm just not interested in reviewing this.

parts of this were honestly too creepy for me to even handle reading.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via netgalley.
I was intrigued by the description. Japanese horror? yes, I like that thing. I've experienced the Japanese interpretation of a horror novel before and they take it into realms that an American author doesn't often go, in my opinion. I don't read a lot of horror or watch a lot of horror film so I could be very uninformed with that statement. but the creep factor is very high here. I liked the style of the book with the fairy tale beginning, the one POV closely related to elements of the fairy tale and then the other POV and everything tying together. it was interesting and odd and overall atmospherically horrific.
