Quick Summary: "Incurable crushitis!"

My Review: The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts was an adorable and significant YA/T read. I absolutely loved it! It was sooooo cute and powerful. In truth, it was laugh out loud funny in some parts and very serious in others. I adored the snarky sarcasm, the loud talking BFF, and the feelings between the main characters.

This story also dealt with some serious issues, such as derogatory language, bullying and harassment, sexual pressure, and assault.

My Final Say: 5 gold stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟

Rating: 5/5
Recommend: Yes
Audience: Older YA/T
Trigger Warning: Assault, shaming, violence, attempted rape

I wasn’t able to read this one as I have not been able to download a copy. As I was bot able to read the book, I will still give it a five star review because it was not the author’s fault.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review.
I love a cute contemporary YA love story and this one is just that.
Vivian's heart is broken. How do you heal this? Well you make a list of boys to date that don't have the "zing" factor" who can help you get over your woes. Of course, as with any great plan, things often do not work out as you think they might. Enter Dallas "McNerd." Smart, funny, and nerdy cute, Vivian doesn't want him on her radar. But her heart and head have other ideas!
I enjoyed how the friendship unfolded between the two main characters in this book. It grew and blossomed into cute banter, funny antics, and overall caring. A slow burn, which is just how I truly like it. It shows the characters aren't going to just jump into something because they are overwhelmed by their emotions (or hormones).
I will admit there were some slow parts of the book. And I think for a YA romance, it's a bit long. But I also think they added to the climax of the story.
The writing was fun and easy.
I would definitely pick up another book by this author if given the chance. If you're looking for a love story that unfolds slowly where the characters are well fleshed out and the relationships are important, this is the one for you!

Since requesting The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts, I have learned that there is an attempted rape towards the end of the book that adds nothing to the story except to allow Dallas to save the victim. As such, I am no longer interested in reading this book, and am so glad I happened to see this review. There are other ways to allow a character to show off his strength than to throw a triggering scene at unsuspecting readers who see a cute cover and a fun synopsis and have no idea what they will be stumbling upon. Rape is not a novelty that should be romanticized and thrown in to a story so the hot guy can save the pretty girl.

In the end, I enjoyed the book as a whole thanks to the humour, book talk and Dallas. However, Viv annoyed me and the unnecessary evilness towards the end majorly disappointed me, bringing my rating down.

This was super cute and a lot of fun! I loved the relationship between Dallas and Vivian! They complemented each other so well and their relationship was so sweet!

Very cute contemporary story that took me by surprise! I'm typically pretty hesitant to read contemporary books, but I'm so glad I took a chance and read The Replacement Crush.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

This book was a dead cute and fast read - perfect for the summer. Vivian is a blogger and Star Trek fan, who adores working with her mam in the local bookstore. She has had a crush on Jake for ages, and over the summer they got close, and kissed. He's now denying anything happened, and giving her the complete brush off. Feeling heartbroken, Vivian now decides that the only people she can crush on are safe bets, those who won't break her heart. Well, enter Dallas. He's cute, nerdy, and perfect for Vivian. She's determined not to let him in, but it seems as if the world is against her, as he is now working at the bookstore, doing tech repair and software development. Their chemistry is so clear that it's hard for readers to cope with how much of a slow burn their romance is.

Vivian is a real character. She's not perfect - in fact she often makes mistakes - but she grows as the book does. Sometimes, I wanted to shake her, but she herself claimed she wasn't perfect, and acknowledged her faults. Her and Dallas really were made for each other, and for a quick summer read, their romance was just what I wanted.

Part of the plot was unnecessary, some parts that I actively disliked, but all in all, an enjoyable book, and I'll probably read more from this author in future.

I adore that this book was about a nerdy blogger! Which describes me and like all other bloggers out there in the world right? It was super adorable and I mean who wouldn't want to read about working in a bookstore?! It is such a cute summer read, light, funny, perfect for reading a lovely afternoon in a coffee shop or a sunny day at the beach. i think it's perfect for romance fans, especially fans of Kasie West

Roberts writes the BEST YA novels. They’re filled with witty banter and the romance makes me swoon. Who could want any more than that?

An excellent meetcute YA read featuring a geeky bookworm of a heroine and an equally geeky, nerd-hot hero. Vivian has been dissed by her lifelong crush after they spent the summer meeting up after curfew. So she’s devised a new system to rate and secure a new love interest that won’t crush her the way the last one did. And the nerd-hot Dallas, who’s new in town and updating the cataloguing system in her Mother’s bookstore, isn’t going anywhere near her list. Only, as they spend more time together, Vivian is more and more tempted to toss out her list and give Dallas a shot. A plan Dallas seems more than amenable to. But even an infatuated guy won’t wait forever for a girl to stop playing Vulcan and come to her senses. Read The Replacement Crush to find out what happens between Viv and Dallas.
I highly recommend this book. It’s enrapturing and will dig its hooks into you from the start. Viv is utterly relatable, not only to the bookworms among us, but also to the geeks, and those who have been broken-hearted or spurned, and especially to those of us who are all of the above, And Dallas is the kind of hero we all read romances to meet. Check it out and start counting down the days until Book 2: The Bookworm’s Least Likely Boyfriend comes out this October! I preordered the second I finished The Replacement Crush.

The Replacement Crush started a bit slow, but got better the further I read.

I understand why Vivian began her replacement crush mission after being burned by love and relationships. Being a teenager with a lot to learn about life it is also not surprising she makes some of the decisions she does. While she was a frustrating character throughout the first half of the book, it was nice to see her growth as the story progressed.

Dallas was a great male lead character. I really liked learning all the different sides to him as he gets to know Vivian better.

I loved that books and Vivan's mom's bookstore feature so prominently. It added a lot of funny and sweet moments to the story

I really liked the synopsis of The Replacement Crush but found the story just okay. I felt it was a slow starter. Vivian manages to hook up with her long-term crush only to find he is a player. Now she wants to replace him with someone more worthy. She is a nerd and a blogger. She wants to dress more grown up and wants to be noticed by boys. She wants to find a safe boy who is reliable rather than giving her that zing feeling.

There's a new boy at school and he seems to be in all the places Viv usually goes. He's a hot-nerd and has just started a job at the bookstore she works at. They come up with the replacement crush mission but maybe Viv can find more than a rebound.

This is the second book I've read by Lisa Brown Roberts. They are both nerdy reads and adds sci-fi fans an extra treat. This is a second look ARC. My review is my own and honest.

Sorry not for me but an ok read. 3 stars out of 5.

Okay, so this was a really really cute and funny contemporary story about teenage-love-drama. And normally I’m not all that into the drama, but the way it was written with the addictive writing style, the humor, and the amazing characters.. It just makes this story work. I was hooked right from the start and just didn’t want to stop anymore once started.

The characters are so much fun to read about. From ‘McNerd’ aka Dallas – our male ‘lead’- to Vivian - our female lead - and all of the other minor characters present. I loved the friendships present between Vivian and Jaz, Amy and ‘Flipper’. I loved how Vivian was the Yin to Dallas’ Yang. She’s this bookworm and he’s this ‘geek’ who’s good with computers and who gets her talk about bookish stuff, fandom stuff, etc. It was so much fun reading their dialogues. The minor characters were such a great addition as well, really, each and every single one of them. Each of Vivian’s friends added ‘something’ to the story and they definitely helped to make this book ‘work’. Quite frankly, I feel sad, saying goodbye to these characters now. It felt like I was part of it all and now an ‘era’ has come to an end and I just really didn’t want it to end, you know? – even though I obviously wanted the HEA to happen, lol.

The romance was really well-developed. It had me on the edge of my seat, every page for the entire duration of the book. The author really knew how to prolong the inevitable – cause we romance junkies just live towards that particular ‘moment’ don’t we? Lol - without it getting boring. Because the chemistry between Vivian and Dallas was so palpable and because of the fact that there’s a huge build-up, there’s a lot of developing taking place in their romance story. It feels relatable to any teenager – and anyone who’s been one in the past- who’s struggling with (first) love and the drama around it all when in a High School setting and it feels real and it’s just so freaking adorable. Vivian and Dallas made me believe their romance was real and that’s the best thing that can happen when you’re reading a romance story.

“Vivian, tell him,” she pleaded. “Tell your McNerd that I am not going to stalk Fisk.”
“McWhat?” Dalles shot me a dark look, then turned back to Jaz. “Did you just call me a… McNerd?”
Jaz at least had the decency to blush. “Uh, yeah, I did. Sorry. But it’s, um, not a mean nickname. It’s a cute one.”
She flashed him her most charming smile. “Viv’s the one who came up wit hit. You should be flattered. She doesn’t give nicknames to just anyone.”
I needed to find out exactly which poisons Mom was researching so I could borrow some to kill my best friend.

And the writing.. It was sooo addictive and good! And I LOVED that the author added a lot of awesome fangirl-stuff as little details into this story. A couple of examples: there’s a cat named Hiddles – named after Tom Hiddlestone which is EPIC I think. If I ever get a cat I’m going to name him Hiddles. Dallas, our male lead, named McNerd – it makes me think of McDreamy and McSteamy from Grey’s Anatomy, sigh – and he’s being compared to Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent a couple of times and boy did I enjoy that because I’m a huge Cavill fan so I was so intensely enjoying reading things like that haha. There are a lot of Star Trek references present and I could go on and one. Familiar books are being mentioned, and a lot of recognizable things are being mentioned about readers who love reading (paranormal) romance books. I swear to God.. my fangirl heart was ready to combust with all this awesome writing, let alone the amazing characters and the humor added to it all.
---
So yeah, Overall, I just can’t say anything other than that I LOVED this book. It was addictive right from the start and it had me glued to the pages until the very end and now I don’t want to say goodbye. The awesome writing, the fangirl stuff, the amazing characters and even the teenage drama. It was all perfectly balanced out with one another and I gobbled it up without no problems whatsoever. I wish I could keep on reading forever. That’s the kind of book this is; one you never want to end. So to me, this ya contemporary story about fighting and finding love in a teenage/high school setting was just an incredibly fun and lovable read which had me laughing out loud many times. So it’s safe to say that this book is a HIT and it’s now on top of my recommendations list when it comes to contemporary romance.

I'm going to mark this as DNF because I put it aside ages and ages ago, and I have too many books I need to get through. If I wasn't that into it then, I don't think I will be now. I remember thinking the storyline had promise, but I just wasn't captured by the book.

Lisa Brown Roberts has once again taken me by surprise with her wonderful and exciting romance writing! This story has a fun crush, characters who are well developed and exciting, and an original and fun plot that you can't help but turn pages all day!

This book is a cute, sometime immature love story about an avid reader and book club member who is on the search for a rebound after a summer romance turns sour. Vivian lives in a cute town in California and works in her moms bookstore after school every day. When a new boy, Dallas, comes to town, Vivian is clearly attracted to him right away and their future together is inevitable, despite Vivian’s stubbornness.

I was so excited to get to read this book because it’s about a book blogger! This book will definitely appeal to book fanatics and book bloggers. That being said, I’m not so sure who else would enjoy this book. It seems directed towards such a small group of people: book bloggers in 9th or 10th grade due to the fact that the romance is too mature for younger grades, and too boring and dramatic for older grades.

I think one problem I had with this book was the main character, Vivian, because I just didn’t like her personality. She seemed too immature and sensitive for my liking. She’s in denial of who she really has a crush on for such a long time, which drags the first half of the book out unnecessarily.

I did really enjoy the writing style, which was probably the most engaging part of the story. I just couldn’t stop because Roberts flowed her words together so flawlessly, and made every new development interesting even when things were predictable. I did enjoy the story and some scenes were much more engaging than others, and Dallas was such an interesting character that he was worth the read for me.

Overall, I think this is a great book for those looking for a drama-packed romance story and a protagonist that loves books as much as you do!

People may think me harsh when it comes to reviews. But, I like to think that I'm just honest. I don't know about you but I definitely want to read a review that is true to it's word, literally. I don't want to read a review by a reviewer I can't trust to be honest about what they've read--for whatever reason. I don't want to get carried away but there's a point to this.

I've seen some of the reviews for this book, and I have to say I'm a bit surprised. Most of them are positive but the ones that are not seem a little overzealous in their dislike for certain parts of this book.

This book, is absolutely adorable. It's the kind of book I love to read, as far as contemporary is concerned. A non-weak heroine, and a guy I wanted for myself. I think I laughed almost as much as I smiled. I was equal parts filled with laughter and love.

The author didn't have to try too hard to accomplish what she set out to accomplish--and I think that was to write a book that was both praising to book bloggers, and a joy for your average reader.

It's a win for all types. Even those of us who are older than our blogging, Star-Trek loving MC. Who by the way I adored. I loved the fact that she wasn't completely confident, but she wasn't weak--or meek. She made me laugh--and most of all I could relate to her personality. She was just a regular girl, who loved to read, spread the love of books--and be in love. Such simple things, and many of those things we all want and need.

I also loved the fact that she had an author for a mom. I mean, how cool is that??? She had a best friend named, Jaz. Hello, I'm Jaz. Lol. A hottie for a friend, and so many other cool people that seemed to gravitate towards her.

Not to mention, McNerdy aka super hot, super cute, sexy nerdy, Dallas Lang. I for one never thought that being nerdy could be cute. Because, you just don't think nerd and hot in the same sentence. You hear nerd, you think glasses, high-water pants, and a snort that throws off their sinuses. But, I think that's all fiction, bad fiction. Some nerds, like most guys are actually hot. I think a smart attractive guy, is better than any other type--any day. I mean, I'll take it. Throw in swoony, and sweet and I am a goner--like I was with this book. I just swooned and swooned.

Aside from the basics, the build up for this one was supreme. It was right on target and right on time. I had my moments where I thought I would slowly die on the inside if the two characters didn't get together, but I love a good build-up. ADORE IT. Insta-love is the work of the devil, my friends.

I don't think I need to say it outright, but I really liked this book. It was a great way to kick of my year of reading, and aside from becoming one of my new favorite authors, for being a total book blogger supporter--but also for creating Dallas, and Viv--I'll be looking forward to see what else this author comes up with it.

Two thumbs up.
