Drop right in to an Irish family. Dierdre is a nurse who is just starting to study to become a doctor in pediatrics. When her mother has a stroke, she goes to visit a doctor to convince him to help her mother. Dr Matthew Clayborne is a young widower who served in the military. While wounded he learned techniques in physical therapy to help injured limbs recover and began a practice when he returned to Toronto. Emotionally shutdown, as much as he helps his patients he is yet withdrawn from them and from his little 4-year-old daughter who had contracted the same disease that killed his wife. Persuaded because of his daughter’s health, he decides to go with Dierdre to help her mother. He hadn’t counted on how much Irish Meadows estate and the O’Leary family would affect them both. Wonderfully told story where you’ll feel right at home.

I received this book free from the author, publisher and NetGalley book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Susan Anne Mason concludes her Courage to Dream series with a novel about the two youngest members of the O’Leary family. Eight years have passed since the events of the previous book and Connor and Deidre are all grown up. This was a bit of a stunner for me who remembered Deidre as a little girl hugging her older sisters. Now, she looks on enviously as those sisters enjoy family life while she intends be a doctor. She’s already a nurse and therefore she’s the one to assist when her mother has a stroke. It’s also the reason she’s sent to Toronto to persuade Matthew Claybourne to come to the USA to treat her mother.

Meanwhile at home, her brother has been tasked with bringing a race horse back from injury. It seems an impossible task until a new stable hand going by the name of Joe displays skills worthy of a horse whisperer. But something doesn’t seem quite right about Joe and Connor is determined to learn the truth about his new employee.

This was a pleasant read focusing on life after World War I. Matthew is a physical therapy specialist, a discipline still in its early days at this time. It’s an element I found interesting because my husband is a physical therapist. The characters are appealing and sympathetic and the story of Matthew’s daughter tugs at the heartstrings.

Although Love’s Faithful Promise is the third title of a series, I think it can be enjoyed without having read the other two books first. I do recommend reading them, however, to better appreciate the family dynamics. Throughout the series, for example, we see the gradual transformation of the family patriarch James O’Leary. It’s fitting that the series should end on a scene with him thinking back on the past and also looking to the future.

Whether you have followed along or not with the O'Leary's  of Irish Meadows in Long Island, New York, I'm sure this book will not disappoint you. This is the third and last book in the Courage to Dream series.

I haven't read the previous books from Susan Anne Mason, so the entire story was new to me. I enjoyed it very much and I wished for more sequels.

This novel Love's Faithful Promise follows James and Kathleen O'Leary's daughter, Deidre, and her dreams of becoming a doctor. However, her dreams are put on hold when her mother, Kathleen, suffers a minor stroke. Deidre must help find the best physical therapist she can find for her mother. Her Uncle Victor, a family friend, knows of a doctor by the name Matthew Clayborne located in Toronto, who is trying a new technique that may work for Deidre's mother. Deidre plans a trip up to this doctor to learn the techniques and will not leave until she learns all she needs to know to help her mother gain back strength.

Once Deidre arrives in Toronto, she finds Dr. Matthew Clayborne, who seems very stubborn and unwilling help her. Matthew feels very annoyed with Deidre's company and hopes that she will learn what she needs and leaves him. Deidre's parents offer Matthew to be a paid employee and come help Kathleen recover, however, Matthew cannot think of such a thing. Deidre has faith that God hasn't brought her there for no reason and knows he may be able to help her mother, although he is very stubborn. We soon learn Matthew suffers from a wound in the war and wounds on his heart, and is especially worried about his sweet daughter.

One day when Matthew is working with Deidre, he learns that his little daughter Phoebe is sick and has been taken to the hospital. Deidre soon and Phoebe take a liking to each other at the hospital, however, Phoebe doesn't speak to anyone and hasn't for many years nor does her father allow her to have interactions with others. Matthew wants to protect his daughter from the cruelties of the world. Matthew feels God and the world have been unfair to him. Due to doctors orders, of fresh air and relaxation for Phoebe, Matthew Clayborne gives in to Deidre's offer of working for her mother.

Shortly, many things change for Matthew. Is he prepared for the changes he is finding? Will he open his soul and his heart again? Can Deidre accept the fact she may never be a doctor? Will God help them achieve all their dreams and heal their hearts?

There is also a side story about Deidre's brother Connor, but you'll have to read the book to find out more about him. What I can tell you is that the circumstance Connor has does affect the relationship between Deidre and Matthew.

This book was wonderful and I loved every minute of the O'Leary's. It feels that I had known them forever and I will miss them very much. But I can't close with out thanking Bethany House Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this awesome novel for my honest opinion.

Love's Faithful Promise took me by surprise. This is a great case for "Don't judge a book by it's cover!" (which I'll admit to doing on a regular basis). From the simple cover I wasn't expecting to get such a wonderful and charming story. Both Deirdre and Matthew are head-strong characters who have both built walls around their hearts.

With a plethora of secondary characters and a wonderful setting of Deirdre's family home, Love's Faithful Promise is a great read for anyone who loves inspirational romance.

Love’s Faithful Promise (Mason, Susan Anne, Bethany House 2016) is the third book in Mason’s “Courage to Dream” series. It opens in 1922 as young medical student Deirdre O’Leary rushes to her mother’s bedside. Colleen O’Leary has just suffered a stroke and her wealthy husband is determined she will have the very best care available. Unfortunately, the best is Matthew Clayborne and he’s unwilling to uproot his motherless daughter to travel to Long Island where the O’Leary estate lies. When Deirdre’s attempts to convince Matthew fail she settles in to learn his techniques in order to treat her mother herself. Eventually Matthew agrees to go to Mrs. O’Leary and the journey blesses him, his daughter and Deirdre as well and by the book’s end they’ve married.

I really enjoyed Love’s Faithful Promise as it explored deep and painful emotions in both Matthew and Deirdre’s pasts. Even Matthews young daughter has been through a lot but faces life with the resilience of childhood and enjoys the beauty of her surroundings whether she’s on the rustic Long Island estate or her Boston home.

Both the O’Leary’s and Dr. Clayborne live amid the wealth of the 1920’s and Mrs. Mason beautifully presents the setting.

I would certainly recommend this to you.
