This was a decent read. In some parts the narrative was a tad sluggish and bogged down, but WWII a is another genre that I am complet, why infatuated with.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC of The Sugar Men by Ray Kingfisher.

Susannah Morgan is an elderly widow, living in South Carolina and is quickly approaching the end of her days. Determined to face her past, she flies to Germany, and the place of her own personal hell during the Holocaust. While there she experiences horrific flashbacks of her days in the concentration camp, and all the unimaginable loss. She begins to open up to her adult children, and share with them all she has lost.

What a story, and it will shred your hearts to bits. But the beauty of stories like this is the redemption of human kindness. These are the kind of books that humble me and remind me of the tremendous suffering that is happening today, and how I can help to improve our world.

This story took a subject that has been written about many times-the Holocaust-and made it fresh. It was not plodding or drawn out, and I loved how the main character was capable even at 80+ years old.
