DNF. I couldn't get into this book. Maybe it was the timing or something. I might try again later but for now it's a DNF.

I always enjoy a good paranormal/fantasy read and was excited to see Ms. Aleo venture out of the ice rink. Who doesn’t love werewolves, vampires, witches, shifters? Well these folks are an underground society consisting of supernatural beings. They are called the Works. The Von Stein’s lead this group and are descendants of Dr. Frankenstein. Sounds cool!
Rebecca’s father, who happens to be the leader has her locked up tight. The poor girl has ZERO privacy and not only that imagine being the test subject for experiment after experiment for three years straight. She gets to socialize with her people at her family’s bar, where she works but she wants more.
When Killian starts working the bar, Rebecca is intrigued and the rules to stay away from him go out the door. Then there are threats against her and she has no idea who she can trust.
For me it read a little more on the YA side. I didn’t mind that at all, I am a fan of YA. I loved the concept of this story and some of the characters. I felt Rebecca was a bit whiney at times but then again, aren’t we all? I wasn’t a fan of her dad and I really adored Alena.
It was an easy read, kept my attention but not sure I was sucked in enough to continue the series.

Couldn't even make it past a few pages. This book felt a little 'middle gradeish' to me. Just wasn't my style!

I loved this book! I couldn't put it down! I held my breath for most of it and still didn't fully exhale when it was over! I am dying for more!

Sadly, I could not finish this novel mainly because I didn't connect with any of the characters. The basis of the story and plot were original and intriguing but the main character Rebekah came off immature for her age and chapters went by with her complaining about how she hated her life, how she wishes it was different, how everything sucks and so forth. She would claim she was a badass, but then she's constantly scared and terrified...even in her own home. Most times a character doesn't need to announce they are a badass when their action should show how badass they are, but when the actions start to contradict themselves it can be off putting or confusing. The other thing that bothered me was everyone was calling her 'love. It seemed awkward when her brother calls her 'love'. I get that it can be a nice gesture by one person in particular, but when every male is calling her love, our love, my love it can be excessive.

I wanted to really love this book. You see a lot of stories about Frankenstein especially a female one. The different 'works' and the whole Patchwork system was interesting and I give applaud for the world building.
