Thank you NetGalley

Because of everything going on in politics lately, I was interested.

I'll be honest, I did not read the first novel - Newsmakers, but don't think that was a problem - It can be a stand-alone book as well. (I will go back and read that one though)

It is interesting to me to see how far someone will go to be president - and how far someone will be pushed, even by their own spouse.
Overall, the book is from Erica's point of view. It seems that everyone is put in danger when Erica digs deeper into the past of Senator Mike Ortiz and especially his wife. There seem to be, at first, more questions than answers.

Was Ortiz really kidnapped by Al Qaeda on a humanitarian mission? Was he really tortured? What kind of relationship do Celeste and Lily really have?

This book kept me interested and wanting to know what happened.

It's really scary what goes into campaigns and putting someone into power.

Wow. This book was powerful, suspenseful, riveting and so much more! I loved the first book in the Erica Sparks series, but when I saw this was a political storyline I was a little nervous it wouldn't have the same excitement as the first. Boy was I wrong! I was hooked from the very start and could not wait until my eyes found the last page.

Ms. Wiehl has a talent for storytelling. Her descriptions are well thought out and just grab you. The storyline has this seductive quality to it - it pulls you in little by little and then BAM! You are so attached to the characters and the plot that you cannot turn away. I'm glad this didn't take me long to read because I don't think I could take the suspense.

If I had one critique it would be that I wish the Greg storyline didn't happen. I don't want to give it away, but I just didn't feel this dynamic was necessary for this book. But all in all, this was a fantastic book. I hope you'll open it up to see how Erica's doing. Do not let the political nature scare you away. I actually found myself wanting to look more closely at the real political world while I was reading and you may have that same thing happen. You just never know what you may discover if you dive in a little deeper!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
