I'll be honest, when I first read the description for this book, I was really interested. The premise sounded like something I would enjoy. However, the execution of the book was lacking. The dialogue felt forced. The characters felt lacking. I had trouble sticking with the book and ended up setting it aside.

The Concept was really intriguing, but the execution of it was just Ok, nothing extraordinary here.
Characters were Good, but sometimes felt a bit artificial and one dimensional.
Płot was really engaging and kept me most intrigued by it. What will happen when you will Her caught in The middle of fight That is happening between Her fictional characters. Will she be able to deal with Her villain?
Could be much better!

'd say this is definitely a Young Adult series - older readers would be coming up with questions about. for example, the emotional toll of immortality, whether or not the writers were still writing, and, if so, did they publish under their own names.

However, it IS an interesting premise to take literally the oft-expressed but figurative "immortality" of leading writers. The fact that their immortality also drags their leading characters into the world also throws up a virtual infinity of plot devices, so well done Jill Bowers!

I've read the first two in the series and, given a certain degree of willing suspension of disbelief, I found them enjoyable reading. I suspect someone a good bit younger than my 67 years would get even more out of them!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. What follows is my opinion and mine alone.

I really wanted to like this book. I really, truly did. The concept of immortal authors was very cool. The idea that they become a part of their story and have to stop their antagonist was also interesting. That said, this book was meh.

I should address that it wasn't the writing style. Bowers' style is easy to read and understand. There are lines I found myself quoting to friends because I found myself laughing (usually it was Shakespeare). That said, I still wasn't completely sold on the book.

What was the problem?

Well... it was the characters and the tiny details of the storyline. Liz was a character who tried to be interesting, but didn't have anything that I could relate to in the first 25% of the book. I didn't care about her. I ended up reading just for the tiny tidbits of authors talking.

And about that... it felt cut out. Like, what you assume they would be talking about or how they talked. You don't get a good feel of any of them. Not even Liz's characters, who are alive. They don't have real personalities. It's just "well, you know our personalities. You wrote us."

I feel the concept was cool and would have been more interesting if we weren't introduced into the Immortal Writers' world or group until AFTER Liz had taken care of her big baddie.

So, yeah, unfortunately, I didn't care for this book.

Final Rating: 2/5

Well where to start, this was an interesting book first off the cover caught my eye I am a dragong girl and this cover was amazing . The story has so much going on . There are dragons and so much more going on. When new author Liz Mckinnen is kidnapped and told that she has to kill the antagonist in her debut novel . She thinks she is in the hands of some crazy fans. But alas she isn't and she is in for the ride of her life . But will she survive the dragon battle that is coming .
The characters in this book are well written but sometime feel a little bit one dimensional . Liv the main character seems like a good character but sometimes she is very naïve and just doesn't seem like she can carry the burden. But when she meets the famous authors of the past is where we see her shine . When she has to come up against the characters she has created she seems a little intimidated now knowing what to do. Over all she is an ok character and I can see her becoming a great character in her other books .
Over all this was an enjoyable book . I mean what would you do if all the characters in the books you love come to life . It would be amazing and yet scary at the same time . The author takes us on an adventure ride full of cool characters and situations . There were some parts of the book that to me just kind of dragged . The main character just seemed a little one dimensional . Over all I did enjoy this book and would think that anyone between the ages of 16 to adult would like this book . So if you want a read that will take you away for a couple of hours and be really enjoyable .

Sixteen year old Scott Beck never wanted to be an immortal writer. After his father was killed on a mission to dispatch his own villain, he's always blamed Shakespeare and the Writer's for his father's death. Unfortunately, no amount of anger or hatred will put a stop to the alien attack that's heading straight for Earth that has crossed into reality as a direct result of Scott's book. And as the writer, he's the only one who can stop it! So, now, Scott must gather his characters -an Air Force Colonel, two of the best pilots on Earth, and an alien enthusiast from the year 2134-to defeat the alien king before Earth is obliterated by his ships! Further complicating things, Scott is suffering from an odd sickness that he calls Writing Fever that may kill him before he ever has the chance to save the Earth! Will Scott be able to put aside his anger and hatred, at least long enough to work with the writers so that he can save the world?

This was the second in Jill Bowers' Immortal Writers series and it was just as imaginative and fun as the first one. This one dealt primarily with the sci-fi wing of the castle but brought back several of the characters that we enjoyed so very much in the first book. It spotlighted different Immortal Writers because, this time we were dealing with science fiction. But, new authors were also introduced. Scott was every bit as much of a conflicted, complicated character as Liz was in book one, probably even more so, to be honest. I liked his brother and his characters a great deal. Really, Jill Bowers just has a knack for storytelling and is incredibly talented at keeping your attention and making you really want to see what happens next. I honestly can't wait to see what happens next in the series!

Book Blurb: “I am a creator,” Liz said. “I make worlds and men and dragons and monsters and heroes and gods. Who are you with your anger and fear and hate, to think you can defeat me?”

This story is about an author Elizabeth McKinnen, an up and coming author who is becoming a household name. Returning from a book tour her boyfriend surprises her with a proposal. She is not happy and does not want to answer him because she will turn him down. After she leaves the restaurant where the proposal happened and gets into a cab she is surprised by the cab driver knowing her name. He then kidnaps her and takes her to the Writer’s Castle. There she meets of all people, a character that she wrote. His name is Curtis Jameson and he is her hero. She also meets William Shakespeare, her first Immortal Writer contact. He tells her an amazing story that all of those who have written stories, Tolkien, Ernest Hemingway, C.S. Lewis, and all the other writers that have gone before her all reside in the castle. For each genre, there is a section of the castle dedicated to them except for the rabbit hole from Alice in Wonderland. It appears wherever an unsuspecting person can fall in.
What Shakespeare tells her is that her story has been causing problems. Another one of her characters Kenric wants to take over the real world outside the castle as well as the inside. And they cannot allow that to happen. They brought her to them as the creator of the story to help them defeat Kenric once and for all. As we follow the story we see how the relationship develops between each character that she wrote and her relationship to them as well as to the other writers. And what possibly every writer goes through with their characters. We also see a great story develop and a beautiful beginning to what may be a long-lasting relationship. By the end of the novel when she defeats her character, Kenric and saves both the castle and the real world, we find that she has accepted herself and what she is capable of.
I really enjoyed the story. Why I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I still wanted a little more. It is a beautiful idea that all writers become immortal through their writing but even more enticing that they are indeed really immortal. That when their time comes they retire to the writer’s castle to live their lives for the rest of their existence. But they are cut off from the rest of the world. Never to see it again. It seems sad you know. So my problem was more in wanting to have a little bit of reality. However, they can die but only in writing. The characters I mean. Then they go to another part of the castle and stay in quarters designed to make them happy for the rest of their existence- because the characters are immortal too. The problem it seems is with the murderers and mystery fellows. They can create a problem. Great story- great premise. I just wanted a little bit of reality a little more. Other than that it was a great story.
Be on the lookout for Immortal Creators if it isn’t already out.

I was invited to read and review this book by the publisher Blue Moon Voices and NetGalley. This is advertised as a teen and young adult novel and it definitely falls into that category. Even though it was YA, I did enjoy it. It was a little choppy at first but it picked up and I ended up reading it quickly. I did not want to put it down. It does a good job of mixing real life and fantasy. Overall, it is between and 3 and 4 for me.

I really like the unique plot of this novel. When an author's words stretch beyond the page, when their words are etched into the fabric of reality, the writer becomes immortal. That's what happened to Liz, a young award winning fantasy writer. She thought she was being kidnapped but she was just being taken to the castle where Shakespeare, Poe, Austen, Tolkien and scores of other authors were in residence. She meets many of the brave characters she created in her novels. They have come over to this world. But so has the nemesis she created. Liz is the only one who can keep him from his goal of taking over the world.

Besides being a rather well written novel with good character development and lots of action, there are many issues explored in it. Liz had designed the evil character after her own dark side. She designed another character to be the loving mother Liz never had. I wonder how many authors craft their characters after parts of themselves or others they know well. Another issue that features in the plot is child sexual abuse. The experiences Liz had when young have profound effects on her now.

I liked the fact that Liz had to face the characters she had created and the attributes she had given them. Shakespeare makes the observation, “Many authors get along with their characters; many do not. Some people find that they do not like their minds as much as they thought they did.” (Loc 871/4871)

Though not a Christian novel, there are religious overtones in it. There is the idea of forgiveness and that of sacrificing a life for the lives of others. Liz struggles with wanting to know where God was when she was being so horribly mistreated as a child.

I recommend this novel to fantasy lovers. You'll have some good battles with dragons and magic and special powers. I also recommend this novel to readers who enjoy an interesting and thought provoking plot.

My rating: 4/5 stars.

*thank you to Netgalley and Blue Moon Publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

4 stars!
What do Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway and JRR Tolkien have in common....? They are ALL characters in this book! Lewis Carroll, Jack London, Roald Dahl, C.S. Lewis, H.G. Wells are also mentioned. Some have very small parts and others have a decent amount, expecually Shakespeare.

Ohh my god though! An author who writes Ya Fantasy novels gets kidnapped and knocked out, then (still here on Earth somewhere) she wakes up in HER fantasy *world* (as you do), that she created!! With a Pegasus and a Dragon And who knows what else in this magical realm! Ohh and did I mention that she is a Bibliophile too!! Hell yes!! Im jumping up and down in excitement!! Then I find out one of my favourite things about this book, and although its not mentioned often, just knowing its there was all that I needed.

Me -'ohh no they did not just say the rabbit hole to Wonderland is there too!'
*Me re-reads the sentance*
Me -'*huge smile on my face* they seriously DID just say that!!

Its fair to say I REALLY enjoyed this! Its actually reminds me of Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige. Ohh I almost forgot to mention that in this realm, they have actual Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Chocolate! Seriously! Thats just the cherry on the cake. This book was so much fun and although im not really one for battle scenes, this wasnt too bad. I definitely recommend this.

This book is bonkers. You get chucked into a non stop action packed rollercoaster that genuinely made my head spin.

Liz is a fantasy writer who has written a trilogy of books about a fantasy land called shenathran, ruled over by a dragon lord called kenric who is in control of hundreds of dragons.

Liz is on her way from a book tour when she is kidnapped in a taxi and taken to a castle and introduced to William Shakespeare who tells her that she is now an immortal writer. Her books have become so popular that they have come to life in a secret world inhabited by legendary writers such as Jane Austen, Edgar Allen Poe, Gene Rodenberry to name but a few. Liz now has the responsibility of having to kill Kenric before he takes over the real world with his dragons.

The book literally doesnt stop, it is fast paced, there is always something going on, and if i had just one criticism is that i wished it would of slowed down a bit.

I don't think this book is suitable for younger readers under the age of 14-16 because it touches on the subjects of violence, sex, murder, rape, incest, and abuse. I would advise you read it 1st to see if you think your child could handle it.

I think this would be really great as a illustrated hardback book with pictures of the dragons and the settings as i feel it would really add to the story.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book for review purposes.

I really enjoyed this book. I found the premise to be interesting and while I did have some issues with the exposition being slightly clunky I did find the story incredibly well executed and totally immersive, which I did not think I would due to the references to famous authors. However, Bowers has taken these historic people and made them characters in their own right which I found so impressive. My full thoughts and review can be found at the link below.

I really enjoyed this gem of a book. Though the writing was a bit choppy and sometimes lacked flow, the story and idea itself kept me enthralled. As a writer myself, the thought of my characters coming to life is somewhat appealing and frightening.

Jill Bowers weaves a Web of great characters and a concept that reminds us of the magic of reading. What if characters could really come to life.... I could see this as a movie... definitely worth a shot!!
