I really enjoyed Elizabeth and Henry's story! This was a reunion story, which are always some of my favorites. Elizabeth and Henry are split apart by someone interfering in their correspondence. When Henry finally find himself back in England, he is determined to get Elizabeth back. But someone is still trying to make sure that this doesn't happen. Will they ever get their HEA? This was a great start to what I know will be a wonderful series!

A long time ago Elizabeth and Henry came together in love as one. Henry went away to America to make his fortune, because he wanted to be able to repair his Scottish castle and support Elizabeth without the use of her dowry. Henry returns after two years and everything has changed. Elizabeth is not receptive to him anymore as a lot happened during those two years, and she feels betrayed by Henry.. Henry has no idea why he has received a cold reception, but he is determined to get to the bottom of it. Will Elizabeth and Henry have a second chance at love?

This is indeed a second chance at love story, and it was brilliantly delivered. The story has drama, passion, hope, despair, a villain and a really good twist. Well-written with a complex plot, well-developed and interesting characters along with a story that moves at a really good pace make this a book very worth reading. I was pulled into the story very quickly, and I was able to connect with the emotions of the hero and heroine. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author in the future.

I have really mixed views on this book. The storyline was a strong one but the read was at points very choppy or rushed. It became annoying when I would be pulled into a part of the book only to have it stop suddenly and jump a couple of days or even a month. There was a plot bunny that annoyed the absolute hell out of me, because its one that is so clear and a huge part of who she apparently was. She is getting close with Henry and in her head she is excited because she remembers the pleasures from the marriage bed with her now dead husband.. There is whole paragraph about how it wasnt the worst but she still found pleasure. Only to have her say a couple of chapters later that her husband wasnt able to lie with a woman after the accident he had years before he meet her. There were a couple of these switch arounds throughout the book. It pulled away from the story and left me annoyed.
I understand that this is an ARC that I reviewed. I do hope both the publisher and the author fix these mistakes.

Publisher's Description:

With this scandal, I thee wed...

The reigning queen of London society, Lady Elizabeth Worthingham, has her future set out for her. Marry well, and marry without love. An easy promise to make and one she owed her family after her near ruinous past that threatened them all. And the rakish scoundrel Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir who’s inability to act a gentleman when she needed one most would one day pay for his treachery.

Returning to England after three years abroad, Henry is determined to make the only woman who captured his heart his wife. But the icy reception he receives from Elizabeth is colder than his home in the Scottish highlands. As past hurts surface and deception runs as thick as blood, so too does a love that will overcome all obstacles, unless a nameless foe, determined with his own path, gets his way and their love never sees the light of day…

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this book. I have read other books by this author including the other two books from this series. I didn't read them in the order of publication but I don't feel this matters. They all though connected by some characters in common can be read as standalones, the secondary characters in one becoming the hero and heroine in another book.
This is book number one of this series. After accepting the invitation to read an ARC I realized that I already owned a kindle copy of the finished product.

A one time passionate encounter between our hero and heroine resulting in a pregnancy... A precieved refusal from the man she was sure loved her to return home to marry her causes a web of lies and deception that could be the end of a love that should be a lasting one.

Did our hero not care enough for his young lover to make her an honest woman? Did he actually refuse to return to wed her or is there treachery afoot?

This is a convoluted tale with an underlying mystery. Who was responsible for the misdirection of letters that never made it to their intended destinations.

I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a high sensual rating of 4.5 of 5.0 flames. The intimacy between our hero and heroine is really hot and a bonus part of this story.
I was invited to read an ARC of this book over a year after it's publication date.
Since I owned a digital copy of the finished book I read it also.
The offer of a complimentary digital copy did not in anyway affect my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Lady Elizabeth Worthingham the daughter of the Duke of Pemworth, had her future set out for her. Marry well, and marry without love until she found herself pregnant & Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir has gone to America to make his fortune in order to save his earldom from ruin. Henry isn’t answering her letters so she marries Lord Newland. Returning to England after three years abroad, Henry is determined to make the only woman who captured his heart his wife. But the icy reception he receives from Elizabeth is colder than his home in the Scottish highlands.
A lovely novel Henry & Elizabeth have always loved each other but misunderstandings & secrets threaten to come between them. There’s also the dastardly Marquis with his own agenda. The pace of the book is very good & I was hooked from the beginning. Although I really liked Henry there were times when I could have shaken Elizabeth. I love the author’s books & this disappoint, a page turning lovely read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
