Adrift is a mystery thriller that is centered around one main character, Dr. Meredith Cavallo, aka Mer, a marine biologist who make ends meet by going out on scuba diving tours as a dive safety officer. The book starts out relatively simple, until a series of unfortunate events hits Mer leading her into a mystery that has undertones of the paranormal. This book is more character driven but it also doesn't scrimp on the thriller aspect. It would have you guessing what really is going on and who or what the real culprit is. Mer's life is also slowly introduced to the readers but its more intertwined with the events unfolding rather than an outright narration. Its slow paced but not boring, in fact the tone and pacing is just right to capture the readers interest and keep it until the last page. This is a great start to a character centered series and I would probably read more in the future.

A young marine biologist, Mer Cavallo, hires on as a diving guide in the Florida Keys. Her idea of an easy job while awaiting a full=time research position she agrees to take a filming crew of paranormal encounters into the haunted Spiegle Grove. The Spiegel Grove was a US Naval ship that was scuttled off the coast as an artificial reef. When the charming Ishmael, the leader of the paranormal crew, disappears on their first dive, and Mer, as the safety diver falls under suspicion of his murder, she is forced to defend herself by getting to the bottom of the disappearance. Was Ishmael the victim of a ghostly encounter or the perpetrator of a paranormal hoax?

Join Mer and her friends as she tries to unravel the mystery of the old supply ships killer reputation.

ADRIFT by Micki Browning is an exciting mystery debut and I really enjoyed it. Meredith Cavallo, a marine biologist who has taken a temporary position as a diving instructor, finds herself at the centre of an investigation. With stories of a paranormal entity beneath the waves, and the leader of the documentary grew disappearing, it is no wonder that everyone is terrified. But as Mer digs deeper beneath the surface, she begins to uncover the truth, and it might just get her killed. Throw in the fact that she is the detective's number one suspect, and life has gotten a whole lot more dangerous for this scientist. With plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader captivated, this mystery is well-paced throughout. I really enjoyed the entire underwater/shipwreck/paranormal element of the plot, as it gave the story that something extra. An interesting and intriguing novel.
