Unfortunately, the download for this did not work. I've tried several times and it hasn't shown up in my library to read and review. My apologies. This system will not let me post the issue without leaving a rating.

This is an interesting tale from Lozzy Ford, full of her usual action, intelligent characters, and rich world building. However, the story feels so... childish? Compared to her usual style. It was a quick read that, while hooked my attention, failed to move me in any way. Ford's novels are always so engaging, richly descriptive, and enjoyable. So I was a tad disappointed.

Despite that however, this was an enjoyable read. It follows Aveline after her fathers death and how she is betrayed, sought after, and has to accept a job in order to survive in her world. She makes an unlikely friend in her charge and their friendship was lovely to read about. But it lacked the usual dimensions and build that Ford usually effortlessly gives us.

I definitely plan on picking up the second book, this one felt too short!

DNF, I think I was confused as to the genre, didn't know it was magic realism.
