I had never read anything from Nathan Field before finding this on NetGalley, but I thought I'd take a chance, and I am so happy that I did. I really enjoyed this book, from the ominous title to the cliffhanger ending it had me gripped! There were genuinely 3 or 4 times where my mouth literally dropped open through shock at one of the many twists within this excellent novel. I loved the characters and the way they developed throughout the narrative. I am so happy this is going to be a trilogy and am already eagerly anticipating the next installment. Would definitely recommend this book to both thriller and horror fans.

The beginning of the novel was really intriguing, and I found myself wanting to know what happened to Stacy on her date. With that being said, towards the middle things really started to feel drawn out and I really wanted to get to the point. I was anxious to keep reading though, because I wanted to know what happened to the girls to make them lose it. When I finished the book, I felt like I wanted more answers. I get that the author is leaving things a little bit open to have a sequel, but you have to want to read the sequel to have success. I would definitely consider reading the sequel, however I hope that it has more answers for the reader than this book did.

The many by Nathan Field is a horror and mystery and thriller read.
Karl notices something odd about his sister the morning after a blind date.
This was a creepy and very disturbing read. I loved the story and the characters. It made me want to read more. What shocks I had as I read on. The end just want me reading more. I can't wait for the next one. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book and I definitely think this book is worth more than 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.

Very creepy book, part thriller and part horror, so a bit of both worlds if you enjoy them both definitely a perfect fit for you. This book is very chilling. After first dates, the people return back not themselves. Although, it had a very slow beginning and was hard to get into at first, it picked up and ended up being a great book to read. What would you do if your friend, relative, had a date with a stranger and came back different, read the many to see if you're the same, you'll be shocked and engrossed and a bit scared.

What made me read this book was a review by another reader who said I can't believe I left this so long to read, this piqued my interest and I have to say I'm glad I requested this title as well, the story starts off about
Karl and his sister Stacey, Karl is staying with his sister at her flat whilst he looks for a job, they get on fine until Stacey goes on a blind date with an enigmatic doctor and doesn't return until the morning, once shes back Karl notices shes changed and not for the better. I won't say anymore as I don't want to give the plot away but it is a real eye opener into the society we live in now and how easy its is to manipulate lonely people. This is book one and I can't wait to see where Nathan Field will take us all next.

I absolutely tore through this one, a little uncomfortable at times but intriguing and fast paced enough to read in a couple of sittings. Great for fans of Blake Crouch and JA Konrath.

Thank you to Silvermac Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for review!

Before I begin my review, I would like to stress that this is very much an adult book and should probably be avoided by younglings. Please approach with caution! Also, this book deals with rape/sexual assault so please be aware of that if this topic is a trigger/issue for you!

From the synopsis, I approached this book with the mindset of a story that was probably about a sex trafficking circle and a brother on a mission to help his sister and destroy the circle. Holy crap was I wrong! The Many turned out to be so much darker and twisted than I thought it would be, and I enjoyed every page.

Karl knows something is wrong with his sister, Stacey, when she comes home the afternoon after a blind date. She's cold in her responses and is nothing like the sister Karl knows. When confronted, Stacey lashes out and sends her brother away. Months pass and when the two siblings reunite, she appears to be back to normal, until an innocent comment provokes an incredibly violent and out of character response. Karl is convinced that Stacey's behavior has to do with her blind date, and that she's suppressing something terrible from that night. But the truth gets darker the farther he digs, and what he discovers is far worse than he could have imagined.

Plot:
The idea that a girl goes on a blind date and comes back a completely different person was a pretty creepy one. It really makes you realize that you can meet literally anyone on the internet, and they could be absolutely anything from a doctor, to a teacher, to even a mass murderer in hiding. That last one may be a stretch, but I think I got my point across. I was really expecting a good thriller about a brother trying to help his sister who was assaulted during a blind date, but it was so much more than that. I don't want to give too much away, because the twist is a huge part of the story, but there is so much more to this than what you see on the surface. You get to see Stacey completely unravel and Karl basically has to watch her mental state deteriorate as he scrambles to try and help her. What is completely unexpected is that you get more than one story with The Many, and watching the stories eventually combine was really cool. I thought I was getting one story with one set of characters, but I really got a few different stories that took me down a path I was not expecting. I enjoyed that the book was much darker than I had initially expected and I'm eager to see what direction the author takes with the next book!

Characters:
Right as I began to read, I got the absolute creepiest vibe from Stacey's date, Adam. The very first line of the book is, "Stacey knew something wasn’t right when he asked who was feeding her cat tonight." This automatically sets the reader on edge and makes them cautious about Adam, and rightfully so. But Adam is only the tip of the iceberg. Unfortunately, you don't get to learn much about Stacey other than she has a brother named Karl, works at an advertising agency, she loves her cat and was rather well known in high school for being promiscuous. Her character doesn't get a chance to develop much before she comes home and starts to basically go crazy, but watching her go crazy was definitely more than enough when it came to her character. Karl definitely gets a bit more time to develop, and his progression from start to finish was not something I was expecting, if I'm being honest. He didn't start off as a character that I thought would be able to grow and get stronger, but he totally proved me wrong! There are other characters that get introduced, but I won't go into detail about them because of spoilers. Basically, all of the characters in this book were very well-written and easily stood out rather than blended together. You really get a good dose of crazy with several characters, and even some serious evil with one "character," and I liked the unpredictability that came when someone new was introduced.

Writing:
I think the best part about this book was the feeling that looms over you while you're reading it. You're constantly feeling threatened and like someone is watching you from the shadows. It's so creepy and I think that the author did a fantastic job at bringing that feeling to life! I found myself constantly wondering what was happening behind the scenes while I was reading about what was happening to Karl and Stacey and the other characters that show up as the book progresses. There are several instances throughout the book that hint at something more happening than the characters realize, but they never seem to really put the pieces together until the very end. The writing was very easy to follow, and really draws you in, but there were definitely times that I felt like I probably shouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did. I know I've said this multiple times, but this is a very dark book that touches on some very dark aspects of humanity, and it was very unexpected but also a nice change from some of the things that I normally read.

The Many is a book that dives into the incredibly sinister side of the unknown. This is a multi-layered book that has some brilliantly terrifying ideas, creepy characters, and writing that will have you looking over your shoulder for monsters walking behind you. If you're looking for a darker read that will make you rethink signing up for a dating website, then The Many is the book for you!

Sometimes somehow small press titles in the READ NOW section of Netgalley don't inspire as much confidence as the major publisher ones. Probably because there is less expectation of a quality control. But it sounded intriguing enough and I was in a mood for a thriller, so here we are. The Many is fairly ambitious Manchurian style conspiracy including all the prerequisite props. It falters in its execution due to some jejune writing, that particular sort of overexplaining or flat characteristics or lack of maturity and it certainly isn't helped by the fact that the protagonists are 18 and 21. Reasonably tolerable kids, actually, especially the 21 year old, but still...The plot actually maintains the suspense quite nicely for a long time, mainly making readers overly cautious of internet dating, but toward the end it started to spin out into something too large to be explained so simplistically, so it ended up being somewhat preposterous. Also, why on earth is there still a pregnancy at the end? I'm being deliberately vague so as to not give away plot points, but seriously WTF? After all that? And they drive off into the sunset with murder on their mind...And sequels to come, apparently. It was actually entertaining in a B Movie sort of way, but as far as literary thrillers go it left much to be desired. Fun enough for what it is, fast paced, will meet the demands of undemanding or anyone with expectations set on somewhere around average. Thanks Netgalley.

Excellent! I couldn't read this book fast enough. I did think the resolution was too easily solved, but I enjoyed this book none the less! It's a crazy one for sure! Interesting if flawed characters, and I wanted more of the big bad but that's just my opinion.

Let me just say, wow, what a ride. As soon as I read the first sentence of this book, I was completely addicted. Something that sometimes bothers me about thrillers is the fact that they'll often spoil some of the major events in the summary, and then take about twelve chapters to get to that event, leading to me feeling like my time is being wasted for about a good hour. This one managed to just jump right into the action, and kept me flipping pages until the end.

The main characters in this novel are mostly Karl and Dawn, who end up teaming up to bring down the unseen forces behind the strange behavior of their loved ones. Karl's sister and Dawn's mother are the two who are affected, and I definitely felt the two main characters' emotions at how it seemed like no one was taking them seriously. I felt anger with them, as I always do (I don't think you'll know true frustration until you read a thriller where the policeman says, "I'm sorry, but we don't have enough evidence to build a true case."), and horrified once you found out the real truth of what happened to them on that date. The two of them felt like real people, and the choices they made were sometimes stupid, yes, but made sense since they were so dedicated to getting justice for their loved ones.

Sometimes, the reason why I don't like thrillers or they just fall apart from me is that the description is sometimes misleading. I know we as bookworms have probably been super excited about a book, only to be let down by it because the premise made it out to be so much better than it really was, or we're faced with a totally new story. This one definitely led up to its potential that the synopsis was given. I wasn't let down by any of the events of the novel, and I got so much more than I truly expected from this novel. I'm a huge fan of dark thrillers, and I definitely got a dark thriller that delivered on the surprising discovery. I could've never guessed the turn the plot took, and in a world where thrillers sometimes get repetitive and delve into the same old/same old, it was really nice to read something unpredictable and different.

I can't really talk much about the ending since this isn't a stand-alone novel like I originally thought. This is actually the first novel in a series of books, and I was shocked, especially since Goodreads doesn't even seem to have a release date for a second book or even acknowledge that it's a series. I'm curious as to what the next few books will entail, and I really want to know when they're coming, if ever. The ending left open room for a sort of revenge tale, which I think is pretty awesome, and I'm definitely looking forward to, if that's the direction the story takes.

A very different novel. A very scary novel. How well do you know your neighbor? Could the man you meet online be dangerous? Karl's sister and Dawn's mother both meet a charming person online. Both don't come home as expected that night. No the sister and mom suffer a severe personality change over nite. What happened to them? Karl won't let it go even when the police decide that he is the problem.

A novel so compelling it makes you want to sleep with the light on. A novel so scary you never want to meet someone online again. A novel so frightening you may suspect everyone you meet friends or not. Avery scary story. Be prepared

THE MANY BY NATHAN FIELD
i wholeheartedly agree with other reviewers about THE MANY by NATHAN FIELD as being disappointing by its inability to keep me engaged and its failure to hold my interest in the middle of this novel. As a thriller it fails to ratchet up the tension and keep me engaged. It began to drag and I became bored with the story. I feel bad about giving it a low rating, but I am committed to give an honest and fair review. I honestly felt let down and cannot honestly recommend a novel that I wanted to give up on many times during the middle of the story. I thought that the premise of this thriller started up so strongly and I applaud the author for his imagination.

Dawn and Karl join together to try to find out exactly what happened to his sister Stacey and Dawn's mother Isobel. They all live in the same town. Karl's sister Stacey used to be a party girl who had a bubbly personality until she went out on a blind date with a rich opthamologist she met on the internet of a dating service. Isobel, Dawn's mother went out on a date with a women named Maxine Salinger, whom she met on the internet on a different dating service.

Immediately after Stacey's online date with the rich doctor Karl notices a dramatic personality change in Stacey. On Christmas day Stacey attacks her mother for no reason. The violent attack is completely unprovoked. His sister seems to be an empty shell of the person she was before she went on that date. Karl is certain that something bad happened to his sister and forces her to see a psychologist. Karl sits in during a session with the psychologist during which Stacey agrees to be hypnotized. Under hypnosis Stacey recalls that she asked the doctor to bring her home. Instead Stacey describes being tied up and gagged in a sterile basement. She also recalls a gray haired man named Ivan and two other men she describes as having no faces. Stacey becomes hysterical while under hypnosis. Stacey stabs her brother Karl in the throat with a pencil. She then proceeds to jump to her death ten stories below by going out of the window.

Isobel, Dawn's mother also returns from her internet date with a psychiatric nurse Maxine Salinger. Isobel is also acting extremely strange and Dawn is convinced that Maxine Salinger did something terrible to her mother. Isobel behaves strangely by abandoning Dawn leaving a note in Dawn's birthday card. Dawn goes to the police and tells the same police officer that Karl made his suspicions known about Stacey. The police officer begins to see a common patern and there are many similar links to both Stacey and Isobel.

This story starts out so strongly and loses a great deal of momentum of suspense. As a thriller I want to be continually intrigued. I want the tension to be a forward ratcheting up taut plot. This story did not keep me engaged to want to keep reading. I had a hard time continueing to read this as the story falls flat and I had to force myself to keep reading. I really do feel badly that I can't in all honesty recommend this. I do realize that the author put a lot of time and effort into the novel and I hope that other readers will feel differently than I did.

Thank you to Net Galley, Nathan Field, and Silvermac Publishing for providing me with my digital copy for a fair and honest review.

The Many by Nathan Field was captivating and seriously creepy. It started out weird, got a little stranger in Part 2, and Part 3 picked up with even more odd occurrences. Part 4 was a truly creepy finale. I did not see the ending of this story coming at all. Wickedly well done!
