With the fact that this book is based in Wisconsin I had to read it. The theory behind the book was promising, but they acted too immature for being the age that they were.

The book is told from two viewpoints- that of Oliver and that of his wife, Kai. Oliver wants everything for Kai, and loves her so much. That's clear throughout the book. Kia is a telepath and, although it was unclear where and how Kai got this special ability, the life the couple led in Manhattan and also the strain and different emotions she goes through precisely because of her telepathy have left her incredibly fragile emotionally.
Be prepared for strong language and sexual scenes in the book. Oliver tries to think of how to help Kia and they set off on a road trip to Buttrnut, Wisconsin where he lived before and has some bad memories of moments of his life as well as his own secrets.
I felt many emotions while reading this-I felt compassion for Oliver in his efforts to help his wife. I felt I wanted to see a positive change in Kia and for their relationship to last despite the often tense atmosphere and difficult situations they had to face as the story progressed. In the calmer moments, they seem a cute couple. I enjoyed following them on their journey towards acceptance and forgiveness. The book is extremely detailed. Thanks to the author and publisher for a copy of the book via NetGalley. I'm looking forward to the one next in the series.
For me, what I'll take home from reading this was Heintz's ability to mix genres: there's romance, suspense and adventure plus a slight paranormal element, although the way Kai's telepathy is put across is in a subtle way which compliments the plot, so this is not full-on paranormal. This made the book an interesting read.

Oops! This book was on my shelf from Netgalley and someone I missed it. I really liked the premise, and the descriptive nature of the book enabled me to feel I was present in that time and space. However, I have to agree with at least one other reviewer about the back and forth aspects of Kai and Oliver's relationship. It was almost like that "at the beginning of a relationship" seesaw; we're on, we're off kind of thing. Since their relationship was long-term, I would have expected them to be more mature about their differences, especially considering what Oliver has risked in his attempt to save Kai from herself. That said, the writing was good---entertaining and crisp. Overall, I enjoyed the read.

Appreciation to the author, her publisher and Netgalley.com for the opportunity to read and offer my honest appraisal of this novel.

The Six Train to Wisconsin by Kourtney Heintz could be an interesting paranormal romantic criminal mystery, about an telepath, about her husband and secrets in his childhood town, how their romance finds it’s end and how secrets come out, but … the characters act too much like immature teenagers. All this whining from Kai how Oliver has lied to her and not told her the truth about his past …. People do not tell to their spouses EVERYTHING that has happened in their lives before they met, it’s just not possible, so this constant accusation ‘You lied to me, I can not trust you’ is really irking. Their relationship does not feel like they have been married happily for years, it feels more like they have just met, just married and the honeymoon bliss is starting to fade. And the way how Oliver old friends act is more like classmates in high school.

I really wanted to like the story, cos the story is interesting – Kai’s telepathy, her brothers sleep walking and the criminal mystery – but the immature whining just ruin the story.

However, Oliver lets his high school sweetheart to get his wife to keep an eye out for her son, Lucas. Kai and Lucas become fast friends. Why? When Lucas disappears, a search starts with no luck in finding him. Kai is kidnapped and with Lucas four days later. Why? Oliver has secrets that come back to hurt him -- the ones he had left behind. Will Lucas and Kai be found? Who kidnapped them?

A novel full of suspense and mystery that includes romance and the paranormal. It is also about devotion to your partner and forgiveness. It gives you a chance to see the one of many consequences one might have if they had telepathy. I enjoyed the story immensely. I never wanted to stop reading it as I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
