Hard to get through it all. Wanted to here more a plant based life and the benefits of it instead of just the longing of missing meat or the benefits of how it might reduce his carbon foot print. Fell flat.
When I saw this title, I had assumed that the book would be a rant against vegetarianism or even eating meat, but no - this book teaches us to be more aware of our food. It is something I never give a serious thought to, from "tasting" of our food to understanding the sources of our food.
Richard's prose was engaging at all times, with a good mix of humor and seriousness.
In the end, this book explores our modern relationship with food and I have benefited from reading this.
I wavered between giving this book 2 stars or my standard average of 3. It's getting 2 because it just felt like it had a hard time finding its rhythm. And for a book that was about a guy not eating meat, it was mostly about meat and meat farmers. It was still interesting but not what I thought it would be. Another issue is that it is Australian centric so a lot of the references were lost on me.
