Well, this novel surprised me…
If you’re familiar with Laurie Alice Eakes’ writing style, then you’ll know about those surprising elements that always seem near in her books. It’s one of the reasons why I love reading from her – Just when I think one of her books are going one way, it goes the opposite
With the Honorable Heir, I once again had those preset feelings of where the story was headed. But that all changed as soon as I opened the first chapter. I liked how the story started off with the impression of a who, what, where kind of novel, making me all the more eager to dive into reading. At first I was confused by the personalities of the main characters (maybe because of how the story started off), but I “got” them as the story progressed. And the culprit in this story could not have surprised me more!
All in all, The Honorable Heir was a nice read. Full of mystery, sprinkled with sweet romance, and a set of characters that are sure to make your head (and heart) spin, It’s an ideal novel.

Initially I was concerned that I would not be able to relate to, or even like, Catherine - knowing from the description that she had eloped with her best friend's fiancé. However, as it turns out, it is immediately obvious that "this" Catherine (5 years later) is a much different person - a woman who has been humbled and rejected and hopes to make amends and be able to enter back into the society she spurned. Fortunately her best friend is a kind and forgiving young woman who is secretly in love with someone else. All of this is a bit of a mystery throughout much of the book - on top of the true mystery of who actually stole the family jewels. Tristram believes it is Catherine throughout most of the book, yet in spite of this, he is drawn to Catherine and she to him.
Ultimately this is a sweet romantic mystery; however, due to the mystery itself, there is not as much of the story devoted to the romance and I felt the loss of this. However, it was definitely worth reading and very well written and narrated.

Ok, interesting, but not my favorite. hard to connect with the time period, but historical fiction fans may enjoy this one.

I read this novel a while ago, but had overlooked leaving a review.
Historical fiction is one my favourite genres. It was an enjoyable read and may read more by this author.
