This was such an enjoyable book! I'm a huge Carol Burnett fan and have many fond memories of watching The Carol Burnett Show while growing up in the 70s. How fun it was to discover the background of many of those hilarious classic skits from the comedy icon herself. It brought a smile to my face just reading about them and made me want to watch them all over again. There's really nothing quite like them on television today, and this was a wonderful, nostalgic look back at that brilliant show and the amazing performers who brought it to life. I loved every minute of it!

I grew up watching re-runs of The Carol Burnett Show, and I've been a huge fan of hers ever since. This book is specifically related to the show: how it got started, those who worked on & in it, some of the most famous episodes, and more. I really couldn't read this without hearing her read it in my head, and it's just a humorous, entertaining read about a show that was sort of groundbreaking at the time. I highly recommend it if you enjoyed the show, enjoy Carol Burnett, or are just a fan of good comedy and fun stories.

NOTE: The audiobook is excellent - read by Carol herself, and infused with her personality even more than the print book.

Having been a long-time fan of Carol Burnett, it was wonderful to sit down with this book to learn more about what happened behind the scenes of one of my favorite shows. Ms. Burnett is gracious in her praise of how our favorite guest stars were instrumental in making The Carol Burnett Show one of the greatest comedies ever. You can't help but laugh as you read this book written by one of the most beloved and talented entertainers of all time. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I had a great time getting to know Carol Burnett through her memories of her comedy show.
The back ground of how the skits came about and the interviews with the cast and crew of the show were at time laugh out loud funny. With the show on air for 11 years, Carol was a master. What a treasure of a book!! So glad I requested it.

My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4 ⭐️.
I enjoyed reading this book written by Carol Burnett about her life, and television show that ran for eleven years. I fondly remember watching her show with my dad.

Carol Burnett writes about the people behind the scenes, the regular cast, guests, the skits, musical acts, costumes and the fun they had both on and off the set. She describes many skits in detail and tells about filming the show live.

Her show won twenty-five Emmy awards and was listed by Time magazine as one of the "100 Best TV Shows of All Time."

Thanks to NetGalley and Crown Publishing Group for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was like sitting down to lunch with a funny girlfriend. I've loved Ms Burnett forever I used to watch her show growing up. I have followed her through the years, and this felt like catching up. A+++

I loved In Such Good Company because Carol Burnett remains one of the heroes of my childhood and the breadth of her experiences are the stories we need right now. She is an amazing woman who is more than comedic icon.

She Said:

I’m a huge Carol Burnett fan. When I first remember seeing her perform when I was 12-years-old I was absolutely awestruck. She’s so funny, and she’s also just a great actress knowing just when inject the right amount of pathos into a performance. I’ve read her two previous memoirs, and love them both, so I had high expectations for In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem, and Fun in the Sandbox (Crown Archetype).

To write this book saluting the highs and lows of the staggering eleven year run of The Carol Burnett Show, Carol actually watched every episode. I wish I could have been watching right by her side. But, In Such Good Company has such great intimate feel that it’s the next best thing. I love that we get to see screengrabs from the skits that she mentions. Not only that, the reader sometimes get large chunks of script, with Carol’s fascinating annotations. It was so cool to get a peek behind the scenes of classic, but sometimes forgotten bits like “The Doily Sisters” and “Mildred Fierce.” Don’t get me wrong, I love “Sunnyset Boulevard” and “Went with the Wind”, too. But, I really appreciate that she shares so much about sketches that are both widely known and some personal favorites too.

Since I’m such a big fan of Carol Burnett and I’ve watched all the specials, the interviews and read her first two books, I wondered if there would be stories that were new to me. I’m delighted to say that In Such Good Company contained a lot of stories that I didn’t know. Yes, I had heard a small number of the stories before. I was happily overwhelmed with a wealth of new anecdotes and details that I happily gobbled up while reading.

This book is truly a treat for any fan of Carol Burnett and it’s also a great book for any TV history buff too. Her tales about working with Jim Nabors, Betty White, Lucille Ball and Bernadette Peters are so much fun to soak in. Plus, Carol’s a great role model for any female due to her optimism, talent and creativity. In Such Good Company should make an appearance on your wish list or your shopping list this year!

Kari Liked: The photos and detailed stories in the book were deliciously delightful.

Kari Didn’t Like: I really loved In Such Good Company. I guess my complaint is that I want more. Carol can write a fourth book, right?

If you grew up in the 1970's like I did, you'll remember The Carol Burnett Show as one of the funniest and most popular TV shows of that era. What I didn't realize was that it was on the air for 11 years. In Such Good Company is Carol Burnett's recollection of the show. And not just the show, but things connected to the show such as how the regulars were hired and how they evolved, her guests and her relationships with them, the costumes, her cameramen and so on. The title fits the book as she speaks fondly of everyone, gives credit to everyone else and reminisces about the show. The only reason I did not give this book five stars is that I thought the play-by-play of some of the sketches in the book was a little tedious.

The writing felt like you were sitting down and talking to Carol. She shared so many anecdotes about the sketches that I loved that I found myself smiling and remembering my youth. I absolutely loved the Mama sketches and the Gone with the Wind sketch was one of my favourites. Many of the other descriptions has me remembering things that I had forgotten. I definitely need to check out clips on youtube. A great, relatively quick read that was thoroughly enjoyable.

Crown Publishing and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of In Such Good Company. This is my honest opinion of the book.

As a big fan of this actress/comedienne for her wit, impeccable timing, and ability to completely transform into a multitude of characters, I was excited to read In Such Good Company. The problem was that most of the book was just a recap of familiar skits and associations with various actors and producers. There was precious little new information, although I was pleasantly surprised to read the story about how Vicki Lawrence became part of the family.

Although it was not all that insightful, the author was able to provide readers with a snapshot of some of the most important times of her life, both personally and professionally. Arguably one of the queens of comedy, Carol Burnett made her mark on television and changed it for the better. Readers who are barely familiar with Carol Burnett will definitely find this book interesting, while those who are fans of the many television projects may find it to be either repetitive or nostalgic.
