This novel is one fast paced adventure as we follow Lowell from living the simple life of a shepherd to a fighter for his people. The characters are so incredibly precious and memorable which is one of the things that stood out the most to me. Lowell is just so gentle and kind that it's impossible not to love him and want to protect him from the horrors of the world that lay outside his secluded home. Lycaea is strong willed and furious and her bluntness cuts at times but she's a true fighter. Then we have Dodge and his wife and I would give anything to get to meet them in real life. I enjoyed how romance wasn't the main focus of the story as Meg Caddy directed your attention to the social injustice of waer treatment and how a common evil can bring people from different backgrounds together. Despite that, I wanted more Lowell/Lycaea moments - they're such different people but together they fit so well. The amount of bombs that are dropped from identities to plot twists was enough to keep the story going. All in all, a fun read and something you should definitely check out!
