Girl Number One revolves around a serial killer who is targeting women who look almost like the protagonist Eleanor.
18 yrs ago Eleanor witnesses the murder of her mother, and right on the death anniversary she stumbles upon a body. But when the cops arrive there seems to be no signs of a body – someone seems to be playing tricks with Eleanor’s mind to make it look like she is losing her mind.
As she delves deeper into the investigation, she uncovers a web of secrets and lies that threaten to destroy everything she holds dear.
The novel is well-written and expertly plotted, with twists and turns. The characters are well-developed and believable, and the pacing is excellent, building up the tension and suspense as the story progresses.
Overall, this was a fantastic read, well-crafted and gripping story that kept me on interested till the very end.

Such a good story.
One where you go back and forth between many characters who may have been the killer.

Great read and can’t wait to read more by this author.

The plot line was good but the character of Eleanor just didn’t work for me. There was something about her that kept me from engaging with her. The story was well written and full of twists and turns.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was so good! It will have you questioning everything, was the body even there? Well you'll just have to read to see. I definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed this thriller novel! I found myself really drawn to the characters, and their stories were utterly heartbreaking at times.
One of the main things I liked about this novel is that the plot was very well put together and no question was left unanswered. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

WOW MY HEART.

It took me a while to finish this book because 30-50% were hard to read emotionally, what with everyone thinking that she was making up everything and going crazy.

The whole it's-him-it's-not-him-oh-look-more-hints-and-suspicions-about-this-one were very well done. At one point I didn't know which way was up and which way was down. I thought that it was one guy then persuaded that it was a red herring than back at suspecting that guy.

The last 30% of the book were riveting! Even the full reveal was fascinating, I had no moment of I-know-that-I'm-bored. Overall, I really enjoyed this book!

A thriller that will keep you guessing, keep you turning the pages and wanting more.

You do think part way through that you have everything figured out, everything just set right in your mind.

Let me tell you now, you are wrong.

This is the first book I have read by Jane Holland. Ellie finds a dead body where her Mom was murdered years ago. When the police arrive, the body is now gone. Where did the body go? Is someone trying to make her crazy? Did she imagine it? Since Ellie found the body on the anniversary of her Mom's death, everyone seems to think that she is mistaken. Now she is on a journey to prove everyone wrong and also find her Mom's killer. I was pulled into the book almost immediately. I figured out what really happened earlier than I would have like, but still found the read enjoyable.

Tense thriller, with some less than obvious twists and turns.

Girl Number One was another great psychological book by Jane.
From the start I thought I knew what was going to happen and who the murderer was........ I was wrong. Full of twists and turns that kept me hooked. Have a read you will not be disappointed.

I am very late in reading this novel. Just been having a sort out and discovered recently that I had overlooked this book.

It was an enjoyable read, but I didn't quite gel to the main character - Ellie. I also guessed who the killer was by the time I reached half way through the book. Despite, it was good and I would certainly read more by this author.

I don't read a lot of these books - but I enjoyed every minute of this one.

Eleanor Blackwood made for a great narrator - and the friends and family around her were believable and well rounded. The mystery itself was actually a surprise, and not through deliberately just not telling the reader (that drives me bonkers). Instead it was revealed naturally and I really appreciated it.

I don't know if I'm a convert to the genre yet, but a few more books like this and I just might consider it.

This was the second book by Jane Holland I've read and I was interested to see where the story line took me.
It was entertaining and recommendable.

I'm not sure what it is about this book but I cannot connect to this book whatsoever. It is just the way the book is written I believe. I just can't get into it even with the mystery involved. The author did not make me care enough about the main character within the first couple chapters and I don't care to finish the story.

A well-paced murder mystery with a main character you can root for and plenty of good surprises. It will keep you reading!

The premise of Girl Number One sounded intriguing and made me request the title. I have never read Jane Holland before and thought this would be a thriller along the same lines as Gone Girl & Girl on the Train and it is marketed that way for sure but something doesn't quite make it a gripping page turning. Girl Number One starts out strong but fizzles somewhere in the middle. The characters are annoying and Eleanor's behavior is questionable throughout. I think her behavior is supposed to have the reader question her mind (a la Girl on the Train) but really it just makes you dislike her. Unfortunately this was a pass for me.
