Joyce Meyer, whose aim is to leave us 100 books wrote this book. It delivers one word for each day, a reading based on that word and the meaning of the word.
It takes a bit of getting used to if you expect a reading then a prayer.
I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.

My thanks to NetGalley and FaithWords / Center Street for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

I am an old fogie. When reading a daily devotional, I prefer a "real" book to an ebook any day. If I don't see the book sitting on my table, but just an eReader, it's much easier to forget to pick it up to read it every day. Hence my reviewing this book at the end of February instead of December...

Otherwise, not a bad little book, but I did disagree with a few things the author said. For example, her understanding of God's healing and how if we just put in five more minutes every night at the office, we might not get laid off. Completely missed the mark with me.

I also completely DESPISE the version of the Bible she uses. It is SO insulting to the reader and distracting from God's Word that I just can't stand it. That's a personal preference of mine. Others may love that translation. Not me.

So while this book is a 3.5 star, it's rounded down to 3 stars due to the translation, my disagreeing with some of her belief structure and a slight negative on the format. If you want to read this book, I highly recommend the physical book over the ebook. It's not a bad book, she has a lot of good to say, but it just didn't catch me right now. It doesn't help that I was reading this concurrently with Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. That book is amazing and tough to run against. This author is popular at my store and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to customers.

Inspirational Bible teacher Joyce Meyer who has written over 100 books which have been translated into 100 languages and whose words reach an audience of ??? through radio, television, and conferences has published a new daily devotional book. A powerful word is focused upon each day of the year with an entry that features a Bible scripture, a devotional from Joyce, and a definition of the word to ponder. The entry can be read in less than 5 minutes, but can be meditated and prayed on throughout the day. This book fills a niche for those looking for a succinct devotional to begin a busy day. This will not be the only devotional I read this year each day--I will pair it with a couple of others one of which is a much deeper read--but I know it will provide thought and inspiration and welcome its presence in my daily reading. This January 23 entry from Joyce Meyer's new 2016 devotional Wake Up To the Word provides an example:

"Dream

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. PROVERBS 13:12 (NLT)

Each of us should have a dream and go after that dream with all our hearts. Dreams are different from plans. Plans are manageable opportunities, but dreams are often too big to be managed. You plan to assemble a model airplane, but you dream to fly. Dreams always require faith because they are bigger than you or your ability to accomplish them. That is why I believe faith-filled dreams are so important. When you dream a big dream for God, you will need to become totally dependent on Him to bring it to pass. All dreamers come to the point where they stop and say, “Lord, this is the dream I believe You’ve given me, but I don’t know how to make it true. I need You to lead the way.” Trust God’s timing and diligently take each step He guides you to take. You will see your God-ordained dreams come to pass if you don’t give up.

Dream: To think; to imagine"

I really love the idea that Joyce has chosen one word for each day of the year. It is so easy for me to get caught up in day-to-day activities that I forget about what I have read that morning. With one easy to remember word, it will be a lot easier. I can also jot this down and carry it with me.

For 2017, I'm combining this with a five-year diary, so I can use Joyce's word for the day as a starting point for a sentence or two. I bought the diary last year, and didn't have anything to add every day, so it got pushed to the side. With all the inspirational words from Joyce, I am looking forward to using this book with it.

.Thank you Joyce. I am excited about this!
