I did enjoy the first book more but this one was still good.

I ended up not getting into this book as much as I was hoping to. Maybe that was because not much actually seemed to happen that moved the story forward a whole lot, I don't know. I did like the multiple point of views though, that is something that I always enjoy.

All of the characters are out fighting their own battles in different ways. Alessandra is slowly losing herself to the chip in her brain and Cleon, whose presence inside her head only keeps getting stronger. Sometimes so much so she can't tell if a thought is her own or his. She fears strengthening her powers because Cleon's control of her powers gets stronger right along side her. Left with no one to trust, and not knowing who to believe, Alessandra seeks out the first Oracle. Who sheds light onto some things and leaving Alessandra with a decision to make.

I really disliked Phoibe here because she was being too short sighted and incredibly selfish. Outside the walls, she is trying to build up her army and kill any gods she comes across. She faces some complications and when her first transformation into a grotesque happens, she understandably freaks out. When her camp is attacked, she gives free reign to that side of herself and is horrified by what she has done. Fortunately for her, Herakles is there and remains calm. Ready to regroup and go forward.

Adonis's task ends up not quite being what he expected, but he does learn from it. When he finally returns to the city, it is not alone. He first finds Phoibe's camp and stays to help her, but when Niko shows up and tells him of all that Alessandra is suffering, he leaves right away to save her. Too bad it's not that easy.

Lantos has been trying hard to undo the wrong that he has done. We don't really get a lot of him, which is unfortunate. I really really like him too, so I was not happy with what happened to him at the end.

I definitely want to find out what happens next, I just hope some things start to go better for Alessandra at this point.

Because I didn't like the first book and DNF it, I'm not going to bother with this one, I'm sorry.
