December 11, 2016 by Deborah A. Fortner
CONCEPT
Childhood friends run into each other after years apart and realize their feelings are stronger than they realize.
STORY
Walking in her sisters' successful footsteps is a tough act to follow. But Summer Dupree has high hopes for the new Bare Sophistication lingerie boutique slated for a grand opening in Miami. Then she spies a familiar face. Up-and-coming fashion photographer Aiden Chase brings back cherished—and painful—memories. And now her childhood confidant and fiercest protector is determined to take their former relationship to a new intimate level.
In the magic city to pursue his dreams, Aiden isn't letting Summer slip away again. He can't change the past—or events that altered his best friend's life forever. But he's ready to create a future together. Even when an unexpected threat resurfaces, Aiden won't give up this time without a fight. Can he turn his long-simmering passion for Summer into a love story for the ages?
CHARACTERS
Ms. Green did a great job developing Summer and Aiden’s characters. Summer is youngest of the Dupree sisters and has now set out to open an extension of the Bare Sophistication line in Miami, never expecting to run into her best friend Aiden Chase. The two lost touch after college and old feelings resurface when they meet again in Miami. Summer is still harboring ill feelings about a past event during college and Aiden has been fighting his feelings for Summer. He is now ready to pursue a relationship with her and he is not expecting any challenges. Both characters encounter abandonment issues with their mothers so they had a lot in common. With support from family, they are rooting for this couple’s happiness.
DIALOGUE
The dialogue was appropriate for the Christmas theme.
STRUCTURE
The structure of the story embarked on friends turning into lovers as well as learning to forgive each other and find happiness.
OVERALL
I thoroughly enjoyed Aiden and Summer’s journey and loved the long lost friends to lovers theme in this book. There were flashbacks throughout the story that shape how this couple progressed through the years and will make readers fall in love with these characters. I so loved the scene when they showed up for the family getaway. Overall this was a good read.
