I'm all for a spooky gothic tale and when you add a creepy mansion into the mix, you definitely have my attention. Unfortunately Devil's Cove couldn't keep it for long.

While I felt like the atmosphere of this book was done well, combining the supernatural with the horror-esque vibes and mystery, it was the characters that lost it for me. I was intrigued by Grace's background but she was just so naive and it became hard to believe at times. A lot of the story, specifically the character interactions, felt forced. Devlin, her love interest, wasn't one-note so much as he flip-flopped so often that I couldn't pin point his personality and it became frustrating (rather than surprising) not knowing how he'd react in certain situations.

In addition (and possibly because there were so many forced interactions), the pacing was too slow for my tastes. Lots of excessive descriptions throughout and wasn't moving along quick enough to really keep my interest from start to finish.

I think Devil's Cove had promise but it wasn't an overall win for me.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest review.

Let me first say, I love gothic romances, my first "adult" book I read was a gothic romance that I stole from my grandmother's bookshelf to read secretly read. I was so excited to see this title, as there really don't seem to be many true gothic romances anymore. That being said, I had a hard time getting into this book. I really wanted to love it, I thought it was okay and had the makings of a great book; but felt that the author while re-reading it to edit, would add and change portions and that made it feel choppy to me.
