I am not an art scholar but I know the author's name and that he is an expert in the field. What I had not expected was the lucid and informative text to be accessible and readable, expressing in words what Giotto does on the canvas - why is this important to do? Because we can trac relationships to earlier artists (like Cima, who I also love) and to make comparisons to contemporary works.

Learning Giotto's personal history was extremely interesting and will help me in looking at his work in future- in fact, just back from close examination of the chapel in Padua - and I'm glad to read insider expertise on chronology and themes in a way that i could not pick out by myeslf. A gorgeous book with beautiful plates that seem to do justice to the artist's colour pallet. Wonderful
