Love it's set in Prague. Three love stories in one. Very well written. Not a romantic myself but liked the descriptions of a city I wish to visit one day.

This was a happy/sad story that kept me turning the pages to find out what happened. I liked how all the characters get friendly and this allowed me to follow their stories better than if it had been jumping about between them. Prague is captured beautifully and has given me a list of places I want to go and see when I get there myself!

A very touching tale unfolds in a year and a day as we encounter three very different women as they spend a short holiday in Prague. This is romance novel with a difference - nothing about this story leads to simple happy ending. It is much more complex then that.

Megan is a talented artist who tell stories through the photographs she takes but is she hiding behind the lens. She has travelled to Prague with her good friend, Ollie who may be looking for more than friendship - his emotions run deep for Megan. Megan, however, does not find love comes that easily and she is keeping Ollie at an arms length, playing the friendship card again and again.

Holly has just walked away from a long term unfulfilling marriage into a romance with Charlie, her driving instructor. Her life should be moving a wonderful direction except her heart is breaking because her daughter is refusing to accept her mother's decision to move on. It probably didn't help that the first Annette knew about her mother's dissatisfaction with her marriage was when she caught Holly and Charlie in a romantic clinch in the back of a car.

Sophie is the epitome of young love. She is revisiting Prague waiting for her fiance, Robin, to arrive so that they can celebrate their relationshipo in the city where they met and fell in love.

These three women stumble into each other's lives while staying at the same hotel and their stories become quickly entwined. Who will have the have the happy ending?

There is a shadow hovering over the entire story as it opens in a very intriguing way in the first two pages with the hint of something not quite right in someone's life as an unknown woman stands on a bridge debating whether to jump or not into the waters below.

I quite enjoyed this story and became quite attached to many of the characters. I did feel like I knew just like some of the characters that something wasn't quite right about one of the stories and in a way this, at times especially early on, distracted me from other aspects of the book. Once I accepted that maybe happy endings might not be in store for everyone and just went along for the journey I became very immersed in all the stories. Isabelle Broom painted wonderful pictures of Prague and you felt like you were walking the streets alongside the characters. This book is absolutely worth a read.

I always enjoy a story where there is more than one female lead but I think A Year and a Day is exceptional. Usually there is one character that I identify with the most but I took all 3 of our women into my heart in different ways (not only that, Ollie, Charlie and Robin snuck in there too!). Megan and Sophie are similar in age (although with very different backgrounds) and Hope, at 50, is in a way just starting out. They all face different emotional challenges, reflecting on their relationships/the problems left behind at home.

After a brief window into their lives, our characters come together quite quickly in Prague. I liked this pace and it carries throughout the story too. They’re not always together in Prague! but have their own adventures with fears rising to the surface and changing the way they interact. I had guessed something but it made no difference to how I felt about that particular thread of the story. I still cried. I still felt emotionally wrought. It still broke my heart.

The setting, both on the tourist routes in Prague and off the beaten track felt so real. I could see, smell, hear, touch and taste this city. The history/politics, the places, the food, the weather – this all became my world.

I loved quite a few scenes but one in particular stays in my mind … Megan’s exhibition, I was on tenterhooks myself feeling so anxious! So many emotions. There are of course also scenes that made me cry.

This is one story that will stay with me for a long time. Self-discovery, forgiveness, family, romance and oh so poignant. This is the first novel I’ve read from Isabelle Broom but not my last! A Year and a Day is storytelling at its best.

I was really excited to read this book because I had heard rave reviews about ‘My Map of You’ but I resisted reading for a few months because I was visiting Prague so I thought I would read it a week or two so it was fresh in my mind and so I could get even more excited for my few days away.

The setting of Prague was perfectly described in loving detail. Before visiting myself, I almost knew the place. Prague is a very pretty city and Isabelle gets that across, it’s clear she loves the city, and I can see why. It’s great to see a book set in a location I’ve never read about before, a breath of fresh air. You completely felt the city, the atmosphere, the chill of the snow which gives it a slight magical feel and the romance of it all.

I loved the multiple, intertwining storylines. Each character was different so they probably wouldn’t socialise in any other situation, but they made great friends, and looked out for each other in times of need.

Out of all 3 main characters I think that I related to Megan the most. Probably because Simon and I are around the same age as her and Ollie, and the activities that they got hip to sounds exactly like what Simon and I enjoy on holiday as well. Sight-seeing, random wandering and lazy afternoons in a bar. However at times Megan was incredibly frustrating with her denial of feelings with Ollie and fear of commitment. Ollie was such a genuinely nice person, it’s beyond me how she could have resisted, even despite her issues.

Hope and Charlie’s storyline had me humming and aching if I liked Charlie or not. Sure he was charming, but almost too charming, you know? Something came off as slightly controlling at times, but other times he seemed completely genuine. I did love this part of the story as well though. The couples dynamic was different to Meg and Ollie’s and my suspicion of Charlie put a different edge to it.

Sophie was more a closed book, she obviously is a bit down as she is waiting for her fiancé to join her, unfortunately he’s had to get a plane a few days later than her. Because she’s more closed, I felt like I got to know her less, but did love how her and Robin were so passionate on the outside, travel and adventure, and also how they celebrated their anniversary of meeting by visiting Prague, where they met, it was really sweet. She was very delicate, and it was understandable why the others felt protective of her.

I adored the descriptive writing, totally setting the scene for some drama, romance and emotion. Simply put, this book is intensely addicting and you need to read it to enjoy the magic for yourself. Now, I’m off to check when I can next go to Prague, as just thinking of this book wants me to pack my bags once more!

A captivating story that didn't go quite where I expected it to. Set in the beautiful Prague this book reminded me of a long ago trip there, so much so that I even looked up potential flights. It's the story of six couples and their experiences in the city, and of their relationships too. And as you'd expect, none of them are standard - whatever standard is. Definitely worth a read, and maybe you'll need a tissue or two too, but I'm sure that like me, if you've visited Prague then you might be tempted to revisit too.

This is a beautifully written novel and describes Prague so well, that I would love to go there. Megan and Ollie, friends, are in Prague to take photos and do some research. Hope and Charlie, a middle aged couple , are in Prague for their first holiday together. Sophie is on her own in Prague, waiting for her fiancé , Robin, to join her. These people all meet and join together in a magical journey in Prague, exploring and relaxing. Their relationships change. How will this brilliant story end?

I enjoyed this story and was invested in the characters, my only issue was I found myself skimming through pages of descriptions about Prague. It kinda dragged on and took the focus away from the main stories. I liked it but wouldn't read it again

What a lovely story! The author describes Prague in such a magical way that will make you wish you were there. The characters were all likeable and well written and I enjoyed reading their stories as they unfolded.

I really loved her writing style - it completely brought the story to life for me. I look forward to reading more by her.

5 stars book for me!!!! A lovely book about 3 different couples spending a week of vacation in beautiful and magical Pragues. It's the first time I read a book where the story takes place in that city and that was a really nice change! I visited Pragues 15 years ago and it was so nice to be back there for a few hours.... The city is so well described and I love the touch of magic that Isabelle Broom put in her book. I really loved knowing more about the main characters - I liked the way the chapters are done in that book. And I really loved the fact that I didn't see the end coming (well I knew something was up but I didn't quite guessed it) and that's really nice! I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very good quality chick lit or women's fiction book! I have another book from Isabelle Broom on my TBR and I cannot wait to read it! :-)

The romance and oldie worldieness of Prague is alive and well in this book. For those of you who've been there it's a feel good reminder of all the places you oohed and ahhhed at and for those who've never been, this book will make sure it's top of your 'cities to visit' list.

Add on a hearty dose of romance from young love to middle aged love to lovelorn and lost, where else can you search your soul and find hope for the future but in the fairy tale city of Prague..

I adores this book, after My Map of You I didn't hesitate to read this and I was so pleased I did, Isabelle Broom is rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors.

The descriptions of Prague are evocative and beautiful, and the relationship between the three newly found friends is fresh and interesting. They were all so different and fascinating in their own right.

I love the way the tale bubbled along and the secrets that were unearthed.

A beautiful read, I eagerly await much more from Broom.

I really loved this book, as I love Prague.. Well written, good story line, it held my interest throughout.. I plan to buy it for a friends birthday, I know she will enjoy it too. I have discussed it with a reading group and encouraged them to read it and consider it perfect for a holiday read.

Looking forward to discovering more from this writer. Thanks to NeTGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review A Year and aDay.

Oh, my heart is bursting after reading this! It's not my usual choice of genre, but in the spirit of widening my reading choices I gave it a go. I am so pleased that I did. The book is set in the beautiful city of Prague during the winter time. Having visited Prague many years ago myself, and with a little help from Google Earth (don't judge me!) I felt myself reminiscing the sights and sounds which made the reading experience even deeper for me. I loved the trilogy of tales woven intricately together to create one single saga. I have never read anything from Isabelle before, but I can truthfully say that next time I won't hesitate. I fell in love with the characters in the book so much so that it almost felt like my emotions were tied to theirs. A tale of love, expression, wonderment and loss, a beautiful release from reality. Da Iawn Isabelle Broom.

I know that everytime Isabelle Broom has a new book out, its going to be a winner. I always love her covers as they appear magical and just like we are about to step into a fairytale. The cover of A Year and a Day did just this.
The story follows 3 women, Megan, Hope and Sophie.
Megan's best friend is Ollie. Having kissed each other once, a long time ago. Ollie has never quiet got over his feelings for Megan but she wants to be just friends. So when and Ollie asks Megan to go with him on a trip to Prague to photograph the beautiful city she jumps at the chance. Can Prague work its magic on the couple? Can they be more than just friends?.
Hope has had a falling out with her daughter, and when her new boyfriend Charlie, decides they should have their first holiday together he books them on a trip to Prague. Everything seems perfect, if only Hope wasnt worried about her daughter and what the future might hold, she might just enjoy herself. Can Hope finally make peace with herself and her daughter?.
Sophie is no stranger to Prague and has arrived on her own. She met her now fiance Robin there when travelling 10 years ago. They have a pact that they return to Prague every single year. Whille enjoying the delights of the city Sophie is counting down the days until Robin joins her.
As we read furthur into the story their lives become intertwined with each other and the charactors are forced to look at their owns feelings aswell as others.
Isabelle Broom is a fantastic story teller and has her own unique way of getting the reader to fall in love with the charactors and setting. Prague sounded absolutely magical and breathtaking. Add to that the descriptive smells of food, snow lined streets and a mug of hot mulled wine, Isabelle takes us on a journey you do not want to miss. We are kept on our toes until the end. I have nothing but positive praise for this writer, who in my opinion will go a long way.

My lying to myself that I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool utter romantic ended about 5 minutes after starting this gorgeous book! Although Megan, Sophie & Hope's stories are all totally different, they are all equally compelling and you get totally caught up in their experiences in beautiful Praha. Winter in Prague is so special and this book really makes the city come alive. It took me back to losing myself in the winding streets and exploring the castle. It is such a warm and lovely read that you'll find yourself wanting to pass a copy on to all your friends so that you can talk about it together. Isabelle Broom is a really talented writer who creates such relatable moments that you're almost sure she's been listening in to you and your friends' 'deep and meaningfuls' - I absolutely loved it. Five shiny winter-y Prague stars. - I adored it!

Didn't manage to get to this in the Christmas period - I've filed it away to come back to next Christmas - I had a few books like that last year and several of them got featured in this year's Christmas posts.

This was a book of stunning proportions, featuring three women, and the decisions they made in life, about men. One had left her husband, but had upset her only daughter; one had a really good male friend, who was a teacher, but was too frightened(after a disastrous relationship, which hurt a lot) to let herself fall in love again; and one whose fiancee had died, and she was convinced her would turn up in Prague, where they were all visiting.
The confusion, and difficulties they ll faced, were heartbreaking, but finally resolved. Prague, and its magic worked miracles in all of them. They finally came around to live again, in the present, and let the past go, and find happiness in the present, and the fufure. Stunning work. Thanks to Net Galley, and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
