Rogue State is the second book in the Fractured State series written by author Steven Konkoly. Really looking forward to the third story. Excellent storyline and very realistic characters. Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for the advance copy.

This follows the book ‘Fractured State’ and falls short of the previous book.

I found it a disappoint read. While the action was fast paced, this made the story complex to read.

The story line follows Nathan Fisher, who is involved in a conspiracy, involving breaking California away from the rest of America, is being pursued. Helping him and his family escape is Marine David Quinn. A story of the good guys being outmanned and outgunned, but with survival in mind.

Generally a predictable read.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a review copy in return for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This book is like reading tomorrow's paper today.

I've never twisted and squirmed while reading any other book as I did with this one. One thing after another, Nathan Fisher and his companions flee Russian mercenaries, drug cartels, and other professional killers who mounted a consistent, well coordinated attack. Nathan, his wife, son and embattled marine David Quinn, attempt to make the best in the midst of dire circumstances. A must read for any thriller fan.

Another great novel from Konkoly. He seems to have learned his lesson and provides a complete book, rather than selling a serial as a series.

This was a smooth continuation from "Fractured State" with an even more intricate plot and lots of good action sequences. The team of central characters is solid, and I look forward to the next installment. I'm very interested to see where the author takes the larger plot from the final scenes here.

GETTING TO SAFETY? Rogue State is the second book in the Fractured State series. I've read other books by this author, including the first book in the series, and was looking forward to reading this book. This story is violent and not for sensitive readers. While you can read this as a standalone, I don't recommend that as you will be confused with what is going on. Not only does Rogue State start right where Fractured State ended, it also ends in a soft cliffhanger for the next book.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The author did a good job of summarizing the first book for new readers to give them a better understanding of the main characters in the series. The series has well developed characters. There is a lot going on that keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. While the first book and storyline kept me riveted, this one did not until the last few chapters. There is a lot more violence in Rogue State and not as much story telling.

The story starts out with fast paced action and that continues throughout the book. It is amazing how much story, details, and action the author packs into the book...and that most of this book takes place over just a few hours. Along the way there are some unexpected surprises as well.  Even though I did not enjoy Rogue State as much, overall Fractured State is a series definitely worth reading. And I will read the next book in the series.
