Made Well, (Baker Books) by Jenny Simmons, is about the journey towards healing and wholeness. We all go through this journey many times in our lives, don't we? I love how vulnerable and open Simmons is about her own experiences. She's so relatable and her words are like poetry. Line after line speaks to my soul. I read this book during a time of crazy turmoil in my life, which is why I'm 100% sure I forgot to post a review, but it was probably also the perfect book for me at the perfect time.

I love the way Simmons tells story, and I highlight line after line of her words. Definetely recommend.

A copy of this book was provided to me for review by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I was introduced to Jenny Simmons when her first book, The Road to Becoming, came out. I was very excited to read Made Well. Reading this book is like sitting down and talking to a friend. Simmons writes in a very open, down-to-earth style, and I could relate to what she said. This isn't some loftier-than-thou book filled with the "right" things we're supposed to say as Christians when someone is struggling. Simmons shares her own experiences and difficulties, and this is is a gentle invitation to hurt, to seek, and to heal right where we are. I recommend this book for anyone struggling, wondering how God can bring beauty from their mess.

I had the privilege of receiving an advanced copy of Made Well: Finding Wholeness in the Everyday Sacred Moments by Jenny Simmons. I tore through it in less than a week. I loved it so much. It spoke specifically to me about various experiences in my life now and in the past. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered a loss or walked through a difficult path. Jenny is so honest in sharing parts of her story and does an excellent job of sharing the stories of loss others have entrusted her with. I am not sure how else to convey the pearls of wisdom and truth gleaned in these pages other than to share some quotes from the text that resonated deeply with me. "Healing happens all the time, even if a cure doesn’t. I am invited to be made well even when the broken things don’t get put perfectly back together." "As if the physical body dying were not enough to contend with, there are other deaths in this life we must walk through as well. The death of marriages, friendships, dreams, careers, relationships, stages of life, sanity and health." "When confession and relinquishing control become daily habits, it becomes easier to live free. Each day we are learning to live under the grace of being sparkly clean."

I didn't realize it until I started reading this, but the author was a singer with Addison Road. The band's song, "What Do I Know Of Holy" is one of my absolute favorites. Apparently, she can sing and write. This book takes you back to her childhood, on the road with the band, and into her life with family and friends as well. Through some great storytelling, she examines grief, hurting and healing. Really beautiful.
