Very hard to follow. Way too much detail and wordiness. Expected more action.

Synopsis tells about a quadruple murder of rich shipping business people in Oslo,. My first full-time job was for American offices of Oslo-based shipping business, so seemed right up my thriller alley. Synopsis doesn't mention the poor dog. So glad to see other Amazon reviews agreeing re lack of any caring or treatment for the dog. This was a library check-out and my first Anne Holt book and will not read another (her next book "Odd Numbers" has been gifted for review from Publisher / Net Galley - almost afraid to read).. This may be a spoiler for some and maybe informative for those who care about animals. Yes, we all know it's fiction, but . . . . . doesn't have to be horrible about ANY animal. The first chapter is about the dog and after about 20% of my Kindle version, I couldn't think of the people any more - just wondered what was happening with the dog - I knew the crime would be solved - So I searched for and read all occurrences of the word 'dog'.. Not good. Awful, in fact. He is also the subject of final chapter - don't read this book if you care - or yes, read because you care to know about what this author writes about. In over 30 years, I have read many other Scandinavian authors' books and never ran into anything like this before.

The book in the series just before 1222 (which was published in English translation before all of the others in the series were translated - and it may be a good thing, too, given the cliffhanger ending!) Reviewed at Reviewing the Evidence - http://reviewingtheevidence.com/review.html?id=10813
