This was a cute book about finding yourself and accepting your flaws. Canny has a wonderful support system and is self-motivated. There are some hiccups along the way, but I found this really entertaining. I can’t wait to read the sequel.

Good in Bed is a well-written and the protagonist is relatable and believable. Her self esteem journey is certainly worthy of examination. However, Cannie's narrative is whiny and flat. Some negative self talk is expected, but the counter balance to this never fully materialized hampering any character development. The plot is too predictable and the characters are too stereotypical. If there is a self acceptance arc within it is hard to find. Disappointing.

Connie Shapiro has spent her life trying to be anything but who she is. If she's skinnier, better, more loveable, then her life will be perfect.

What happens when the guy she thought she loved writes an article in the paper about her? Can she survive the fall-out? WIll she be able to move beyond their relationship and find someone who values her?

Is it possible that despite her family dysfunction she can discover a healthy relationship built on love, trust and acceptance?

What will happen when she discovers she's pregnant, the man she thought she loved could care less, and her world is still unsettled.

A journey of finding out who our true friends are, being comfortable in the body we have, and living our life without fear or regret.

Good in Bed, by Jennifer Weiner, is the story of plus size pop culture reporter Cannie Shapiro. With not so present parents, her pet rat terrier Nifkin, and her friend group, Cannie finds her support system a lifeline when her ex boyfriend publishes an expose of their relationship.

This book is an interesting study of lost love and finding one’s place in the world. While not my cup of tea, this book is written with heart and will certainly find its audience.

Something just didn't sit right with this novel for me. Cannie as a main character is interesting, intelligent, and witty but I felt like she was given this massive bag of "supporting" details to make her interesting. Though I did find her humor about life entertaining, I can't help wondering if she could have been written differently. She spends so much of her time obsessed with an ex-boyfriend and her body (though the description says she is relatively ok with her body image - she is clearly not). I feel like being fat, having your dad leave you, mom being a lesbian, and hating mom's new romantic partner all add up to feeling like you have to do this to make her interesting.

I liked the book more when they stopped obsessing about Bruce and had her explore Hollywood and after. For a while, I wasn't sure I was even going to finish the book because it felt too contrived.

While I'm glad I stuck with the book, I'm just not sure I'd recommend this to anyone, to be honest. Maybe it's because I'm passed my 20s and I'm secure in who I am to have this book resonate with me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review!

WOW! Ms Jennifer Weiner where have you been in my life!?! This book was hysterical, just the kind of read to pick up when you want a fun and quick read with a bit of sass thrown in there. Cannie is a highly likeable and realistic character that I would love to have as a friend. She is smart yet real, just wanting to be successful and feel loved. I enjoyed her story and sympathized, laughed and yelled out loud. So fun!
I am a forever fan of Weiner and will definitely be checking out more of her books. I am so sorry that I didn't pick this one up sooner, my life will never be the same.

This is the literally definition of women's literature. This novel is a classic and should be read by all who are interested in the genre.

I am so glad that I finally got around to reading this book. I have had a copy for well over 10 years so it has been quite the wait. I must say that I really enjoyed it and cannot believe that it took me so long to finally read this author! I liked Cannie right away and could empathize with all the things that she goes through over the course of this story. I found this to be entertaining and funny at times but emotional at others.

Cannie has recently broken up with her boyfriend of 3 years, Bruce, when she learns that she is the subject of his new article. Bruce has written an article about loving a larger woman which becomes rather popular to Cannie’s horror. We get to see how Cannie’s weight has impacted her over the years including her current quest to lose weight in what she refers to as fat class. She starts to have second thoughts about her decision to break up with Bruce but she has a wonderful group of friends around her to support her as she works through everything.

I was somewhat surprised by just how many things happened to Cannie over the course of this story. It really was a bit of a roller coaster. I felt like she grew a lot as a character and I was happy that her support system stuck with her. I really loved the fact that even when the book was dealing with some really tough issues some humor would often pop up keeping everything from feeling too heavy.

I decided to listen to the unabridged audiobook and thought that Laura Hicks did an amazing job with this story. I think that it takes a special narrator to successfully deliver both the humor and the heartache that were a part of this story. I thought that she was able to bring this story to life and I loved the voices that she used for the various characters.

I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be a wonderful story that was rather hard to put down. I hope to check out more of Jennifer Weiner’s work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Atria Books via NetGalley and borrowed a copy of the audiobook from my local library.

I read this story awhile ago and noticed I hadn't reviewed it so I thought I would read it and found I wasn't very interested in it. Maybe that's why I didn't review it then. It seems to repeat a lot which I find annoying. Parts of the story were funny or sad but I guess it just wasn't a book for me.
I had been given this book as a ARC and this is my honest opinion.

One of my favorite books of all time. It’s hard to explain why. It just is. . I loved meeting Cammie. I read the book back in 2002 when it was first published. I haven’t reread it since though. If I can borrow the audiobook from the library I’ll revisit this review.

This is my first read by Jennifer Weiner and I found it to be an enjoyable read. This is book is filled with humor, but also heartbreak and deals with many issues such as body image and childhood hurts. I enjoyed Cannie and her road to self acceptance and her HEA with Dr. K.

I may have read this one before, but it was before I joined goodreads and before I started blogging, so it was fun to go back in time and possibly read or reread this one.

Cannie Shapiro thought that she was comfortable in her own skin until an ex writes a column that really describes who she is physically and then maybe she doubts just how confident and comfortable she ever really was. With the cutest dog as a sidekick, this book was such an easy read.

I had always heard that authors write what they know and I wondered often while reading this book how close to Jennifer Weiner's true life did this book end up? I wondered what was fact and fiction and what was a little of both!

I loved reading about a character who was just a little different from most. I loved that this book didn't completely revolve around love and instead focused on professional fulfillment also as sometimes in life that can be something that is very rewarding. The friends and family that surrounded this character were just great and I wouldn't mind seeing a book center around one of them at some point!

Remembering this as a debut novel, it is great to know that Jennifer Weiner had many hits after this book was published - but also had a hit with this one that still stands the test of a little time.

it This book is not about a character who is good in bed. The title comes from a column in a magazine that the main character is devastated by when her ex-boyfriend writes about being with a woman heavier than he is. Although the column is not mean and he does not use her name Cannie is inconsolable and angry. Times have changed little since the publication of this book and society is still obsessed with body types and sizes. Throughout the book the struggle of body image and the challenges of relationships are the themes that stand out. The characters are clearly developed and for a debut this is really a great book. It certainly has stood the test of time and sadly people are still prejudiced against those struggling with obesity.

Jennifer Weiner has captured my attention with her excellent portrayal of realistic, to me, women's fiction. I enjoyed this book, I'd actually read a few other novels from the author before reading this, her debut, and I can see how far she has come but also feel like there is a special feel to this first novel that had me glued to the pages.

I liked this book a lot. Cannie is a wonderful heroine and role model. Filled with wit and wonderful characters, this is a delightful read. I’ve read others by Weiner, and this is one of my favorites.
