This one was a struggle to finish. It had everything I like in a horror novel, but for some reason I just couldn't get into it. Then towards the end the author kept adding random characters so it was getting harder to keep up with who is who, only for them to die within the first pages or even paragraphs of them being introduced. Throw into it that pretty much everyone gets raped at one point or another.

Sandman is a worthwhile horror thriller that has well constructed characters and a fast moving plot.

The evil child concept of the piece is very well delivered and the set pieces are very well set up. Johnstone has nailed this novel within its genre confines. Building to its crescendo, the novel delivers at every juncture.

At times, there are some plot points that seemed to be forced but this does not change the overall enjoyment of the book. This is the third book that I have read by this author and I find his work as a different approach to the genre. Not everyone has been successful but he has nailed this one. Recommend.

I don't know why this is even listens under new release. I read this book years ago, when it was first published.
