1.5 stars, maybe. I'm really striking out with NetGalley books lately. If this were a book I had borrowed from the library, I wouldn't have finished it. But I felt obligated to read the entire thing, so I did.

This entire book was about Mia, Michael, and their forbidden romance. Everything in the book revolved around it; there was no other plot. The demons, the hellhounds, the overall trouble in the book? It's all because Damiel wants what they have. That's it.

Mia herself has hardly any personality. It's like she exists solely to love Michael and be a temptation to him. Michael apparently has a purpose (to help people), but he sure isn't very dedicated to his "job." And does anyone else think it's weird that God supposedly reincarnated Mia and Michael, setting them near each other, so that Michael would have to be around her and resist temptation? It's like sitting an alcoholic down inside a liquor store and saying, "Resist." It's cruel, and it doesn't fit my view of deity. (I know, I know, it's a book.) Anyway, both characters were rather weak, not only impersonality but in their commitment to follow the rules. Mia wavered so much: I love him and I want to be with I'm, so I will. Oh no! If he's with me, he'll fall again! But I want him, so I'm going to kiss him. Now I'm going to run away so he's safe. Not that Michael was any better, and he knew exactly what was at stake if he messed up.

Something that especially bothered me about Michael was that he pursued Mia even though he believed he had hurt her in the past. If he had hurt her the way he believed, you'd think that he'd have stayed far away from her, right? You'd think he'd have felt more guilty.

There's an attempted rape scene toward the end of the book, and it really bothered me. Mia's attitude was that if she pretended to want it, he would stop. There was no real terror, no real feeling of helplessness. It sat wrong with me.

Note: Little or no swearing, except for the f word toward the end. Implied memories of sex (that it happened). Cavalier treatment of rape.

A wonderful YA sci-fi tale that will leave readers guessing and wanting more. Part of a trilogy that will pull you in from the very first page. Great characters and well worth reading. Definitely recommend!

Reading this feels weird. I am brought up a catholic and believes angels are holy beings.. And subject to this kind of story, it feeld awkward.

But if you were to think that angels are just beings then this might pass to a good fantasy read. I am curious what will happen to the characters on the next book and curious as to why the third book is titled The Warrior Prophet.

Unfortunately these books are not available in my country.
