It wasn't a good story. It had it good points toward the end, but before we even get to the fairly good points we have to endure excruciatingly annoying story, with so many weak story points that I'd be surprised if many people will even get to end of the story. If I didn't get review copy of the book, I would definitely dnf it.

The premise of the story is fascinating - imagine you're coming back to your home expecting to see your partner there to celebrate happy news with you. Instead of that you get empty house without any trace that your partner ever lived there. Nothing left of him, even his condiments are gone from a fridge. What happened to him? Where is he? This happened to our protagonist Hannah. She’s hurt and confused. She cannot contact Matt, because he successfully deleted every single trace of him on social media and on Hannah’s phone and laptop.

From there the story follows Hannah as she desperately tries to find Matt. At first it’s understandable that she’s looking for him, but after some time all the reasons the author gives us are starting to fade, and I was starting to get really annoyed with Hannah actions, I couldn’t understand her and her motivations. She was going mental with her chase. And her relationship with best friend Katie and her boyfriend James (who happens to be Hannah’s ex-boyfriend) was not helping anything. It wasn’t helping me to understand Hannah and her motivations better. It just made the whole thing worse. Her friendship with Katie was extremely unhealthy, the jealousy and hatred so strong between them.

At 80% point we are given most of the answers. We learn what was going on, and we can understand some of the unreasonable actions of characters. But it wasn’t so shocking. It wasn’t mind blowing. It was a weak attempt at psychological thriller.

I have mixed feelings about this book, there were some good parts and some bad parts.

It's a middle of the road book in my opinion with more erring on the side of 'blah' than 'great'

Do you ever get nervous while reading a book? That feeling in your stomach, the anticipation... It usually happens to me when I'm reading one of those novels that I feel will lead to a powerful conclusion. What exactly is going on? Are my theories correct or have I been tricked?

From the moment I started Gone Without A Trace, I knew it was one of those books. They're just so easy to read! You can get into the characters' mind and try to decide what you would do if you were in their shoes. In this case, Hannah gets home and discovers that his boyfriend has disappeared without a trace. But why? They were getting along well and nothing seemed to indicate that he was about to leave her... And he hasn't just left, he has also erased his pictures and messages from Hannah's computer and phone, including his mobile number. He has even left his job and taken all his belongings with him.

I was full of ideas at first, although I later discarded them because I thought they were too convenient. Why had he left? Why hadn't he said anything? Was he the one sending messages to Hannah? I couldn't wait to know... I liked Hannah in the beginning and I felt sorry for her, but she began to behave erratically after a while. I don't know why, but I always have a hard time reading scenes where the main character begins to obsess over something and starts messing up her life (in this case, work).

When I started reading it, I thought the book had some similarities to both Distress Signals and The Marriage Lie, although it ended up not resembling any. Gone Without A Trace pulled off a nice twist that I definitely didn't see coming. At the same time, I can't say that I felt completely satisfied with it. I think the issue wasn't the twist itself but the fact that it came with other sudden revelations that I found a bit unrealistic. The book was just perfectly plausible up until that point, but by the time it reached 70%, it went a little too crazy for my taste. I don't know if I like how it ended.

All in all, this was an addictive book that I highly recommend to fans of psychological thrillers. The conclusion is pretty shocking and, if you don't mind things getting a little crazy, you will surely love this one a lot. The last line made me smile.

I decided to read this book as the cover appealed to me & i do love these kind of books.

I have to say that pretty much throughout the book i had no idea where the plot was going or how it would all turn out in the end, but despite this i was still gripped right from the beginning, was definitely a real page turner.

Then when i came to the point in the book where it all started to come together and the reason behind what had happened, i was like speechless, did not see it coming at all.

So it was a thoroughly enjoyable read and yes i was riveted and sitting on the edge of my seat throughout in anticipation of what would happen next.

This is a good modern thriller. The storyteller is Hannah who comes home from work one day to find no trace of her boyfriend Matt. They have been together for four years and all his belongings are gone, everything. Friends and family don't know where Matt is and Hannah becomes obsessed at tracking him down. Will she find him? Read on!

Gone without a trace by Mary Torjussen Is a general fiction (adult) read.
No one ever disappears completely...

You leave for work one morning.

Another day in your normal life.

Until you come home to discover that your boyfriend has gone.
His belongings have disappeared.
He hasn't been at work for weeks.
It's as if he never existed.

But that's not possible, is it?

And if he has gone without a trace
why do you still feel that someone is watching you?
This was a really good read with good characters. Full of twists and plots. Highly recommended. 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.

Gone without a Trace is a psychological thriller that worked really well on many levels, excellent writing with some clever little twists in the plot.

Hannah comes home one day, full of excitement about a possible promotion, to find that her boyfriend has mysteriously just gone. Not only that but all traces of him have gone as well. Her house is back to how she left it before he moved in. His phone is off. All her messages and texts and literally everything that showed he existed- just gone.

What follows is pretty much a story of obsession. Hannah is determined to find out where he has gone what happened to him - the rest of her life starts to suffer and everyone in her vortex is dragged into the mire. It is really quite gripping and cleverly done as her world collapses around her and you see the strong independent woman she was fade as her obsession grows. I was very engaged with it and wanted to know whether she would find him. The plot was vaguely repetitive at times but other than that I was gripped.

I did see the ending coming though, and it was a clever one. My one little thing I had with this book is I did wonder if it would have worked better in its eventual theme if the reasoning behind the disappearance had been the thing that the author played with throughout, its difficult to say what I mean without spoilers, because this is set up as a mystery and I don't want to spoil the reveal for anyone because it is cleverly placed considering this IS a mystery.

That doesn't take away from the great read I had with this, Gone Without A Trace offers a tense and intriguing tale, with some excellent divisive characters and a thought provoking finale, if a little bit over egged it will certainly play with your emotions.

I'd recommend it for fans of this genre.

I held off on reading this one for a while. There was a period late last year where it felt like all I was reading were psychological thrillers. Ever since Girl on a Train it became the trendy genre that had got people reading again and I was feeling a little jaded by it.

Gone Without a Trace tells quite a different story. Hannah is a senior accountant in her firm and has just heard that she is likely to be promoted to a director later that year. Arriving home with a celebratory bottle of champagne she finds all the lights off and an empty house. Once inside she realises that her boyfriend’s pictures and prints are missing from the hallway and thinks that she has been burgled. Summoning up the courage to walk round the rest of the house she realises that every single thing he possessed is gone and that all that remained were the possessions that belonged to Hannah. Matt has left her.

Unable to cope with the unexplained rejection Hannah becomes a little unstable as she puts all her energy into tracking Matt down. Her work suffers, her relationships with her friends become tense and she is single minded in her search for answers and for Matt himself.

Told from Hannah’s point of view, it is not always an easy read as the character begins to fall apart. She is ruthless and unswerving in pursuit of her goals and the other characters in the story are not always as supportive as they first appear to be.

It is an interesting story and would make a pretty good book club choice as there are lots of potential discussion points here. I can’t say too much without giving away the plot entirely!
