Get Coding! Learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and Build a Website, App, and Game by Young Rewired State is a guide for all ages in the tools of today's coding. Want to make a website from scratch? Create an app? Build a game? All the tools are laid out in a user-friendly format that leads kids on an imaginary quest to keep a valuable diamond safe from dangerous jewel thieves. Young Rewired State, an international collective of tech-savvy kids, offers readers an easy-to-follow book of instruction in bite-size chunks. It focuses on the real-life coding skills taught in an engaging, comprehensive guide.

Get Coding! Learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and Build a Website, App, and Game is a good tool for those that want to get started with some serious coding, while still having some fun. The book is user friendly and well organized, with challenges that will keep young coders engaged and focused. I really like the idea of giving the coders a mission to complete, and the goofy artwork that is included. I do think that this is for those dedicated to learning, and those youngsters that have already tried some of the basic coding games and tools in the past. Some of the challenges might be too much for those that are easily frustrated or just casually interested in coding. I know that I did not attempt the app making or some of the more complicated coding, mainly because I did not have the time and enthusiasm to put in the effort. However, those children and even adults that want to get a handle on coding and are ready to get to it will get solid instruction and a good foundation.

Great book for learning code. Easy to follow and great explanations along the way. The activity that you make from start to end is pretty fun too...a good way to make sure your absorbing the material.

This is a great book for getting started on the fundamentals of coding. Definitely geared towards a younger audience, but is content packed and entertaining enough to keep focus. I would definitely recommend this for the middle schoolers in my life who have an interest to understand and create code.

This is an excellent selection for kids interested in getting started with developing web projects. The directions are clear and concepts are reinforced without flatout repetition. It doesn't insult the reader's intelligence. The book is framed as a specific set of projects but encourages experimentation, so the lessons are easily extendable. And while the scope of the lessons is narrow there are plenty of resources included so an ambitions reader could easily use these resources to implement a more complex project. It was also nice to see a book that explained how three coding languages work together to create these projects rather than focusing on just one.

Cute book that will have students designing a website using HTML, as they do, they must solve the quest to find the diamond. I think students who are able to follow instructions and complete the quest will feel an immense sense of satisfaction. I can't wait to see whether or not that is true.

Get Coding!: Learn HTML, CSS & JavaScript & build a website, app & game by Young Rewired State

The Get Coding book is a positive addition to school curriculum or library programming. It helps students learn how to think, code, and create useful resources for themselves and others. The images visually direct the learning, while the text reinforces with instructional language. The learning is broken into segments or chunks to help the learner understand, experience, and practice the learning. The writing in the book is “kid” oriented and practical. Most kids will have a positive learning experience in groups or individually while using the book. The learning mechanism provided in “Get Coding…” supports the current trend to begin coding early in K-6 education. Coding in general supports structural and sequential thinking. A key aspect of the book is doing this within a creative environment. Recommended.

Such an important resource for children and teachers who want to learn HTML, CSS & JavaScript and build a website, app & game. I haven't tried any of the code myself but it looked on point and exciting to keep kids engaged in learning.

Great detailed step-by-step user friendly book complete with explanations for student eager to learn how to code.
I like the format with missions or challenging tasks. The charts, for example the CSS Properties Chart, which has explanations with examples
is a great tool for young readers.
I know it will be hard for my students to wait their turn with this resource when learning any of the many challenges, like building a game!

Get Coding! is an awesome book! Though it's geared toward kids, this book is a wealth of knowledge and an easy to follow manual for a want-to-be coder of any age. It teaches HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Through six missions, you can learn to build a website, an app, and a game!

Get Coding! is a great resource for kids who want to learn on their own, for teachers who want to learn a little more, for teachers who are new to teaching coding classes, or as a resource for makerspaces!

I love the idea behind Get Coding! Learn HTML, CSS & JavaScript and build a website, app & game. I think the developers can really make this work. The 'helping of the Professor', the slow reveal of the 'story', and other elements combine to make learning feel a bit less like learning and a bit more like fun. And even though there is good bit of repetition of typing code in the exercises (as there should be) it never really gets boring.

However, there are some problems with the coding that need to be fixed. Carets missing, photos named wrong, etc. It's little stuff, but for a subject where one little line can stop everything from working, it's very important that it all be on point. Some of this could simply be because it's an ARC copy, but this is one of those cases where the errors prevented me from being able to give an accurate assessment of the book's ability to teach children to code, so it's a bit of a problem.

Overall, a fantastic idea and one I hope to see replicated for other projects in the future. Solid premise, great layout, clear text. All good stuff! Just a few errors to fix.

Extremely helpful and useful. Nieces found it informative and plan on buying a copy when it's fully published.
