The seventh book in Jane Casey's series of books featuring Maeve Kerrigan and it is another fantastic read.

The characters are all well developed, the plot is well researched and plotted and the storyline keeps the reader hooked from the very start. It has the usual twists and turns that one would expect from the author. As I read the book I thought, on a number of occasions that I had cracked the case, but Casey drops in a number of red herrings which kept me guessing to the very end.

I’ve not read anything by this author before but I found this to be quite a gripping thriller and would be happy to read other books by this author.

I have not read any of the other Maeve Kerrigan books so I was interested to read this. I enjoyed reading this novel very much and didn't really want it to end. The characters were fantastic and drew me into the story. The storyline was twisty, devious and gripping. I found Jane Caseys writing style fantastic, well written and a well crafted story. The dialogue was snappy however I found I didn't understand a few points mainly between character relationships but I suppose that is bound to happen when this is the first book I have read in a six book series. Highly recommend.

Good read, full of twists and everyone is a suspect! Liked the lead character Maeve, may look up the other books in her series...

I received this book as a free review copy from Netgalley. This was the first time I had read any of Jane Casey’s books so was going in blind. I was not disappointed in any shape or form. Maeve Kerrigan and the team were a close knit bunch and although it was clear that there was some history attached you got the feeling they were a tight knit bunch. What I found particularly surprising was how the author managed to drop so many twists into the story with so few central characters to play with. This is the 7th book in the Maeve Kerrigan series however it is not essential to have read the previous 6 books to enjoy this one, although it may help some readers get a feel for the characters. All in all a great read and I will certainly read more by the author.

🔆 Received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review 🔆

I really really tried to finish Let The Dead Speak. I love a good thriller with major plots twists and me questioning the evil of the world! It’s just a little slap in the face to the horrors of the world.

This wasn’t that.. unfortunately... disappointing to say the least. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read the other books in the series so maybe I missed the slow burn of character development. I defo missed something as it’s had rave reviews.

It just wasn’t my cuppa tea which is a shame.... I do love a good thriller.

Let the Dead Speak is the first book I've read by Jane Casey, but won't be the last. I had no idea that it was #7 in a series (Maeve Kerrigan) - this didn't make any difference to my reading experience. Let the Dead Speak is a great standalone book.

Let the Dead Speak is a tale of a murder without a body. 18 year old Chloe Emery returns home to discover her mother missing and blood smeared all over their London home. The house soon becomes a crime scene and the story unfolds with people in the local community becoming suspects in a murder investigation.

Let the Dead Speak is a story about love, seduction, grief, betrayal, suspicion, infidelity, murder and manipulation. I was hooked from the start, the plot is utterly compelling. I was rooting for Maeve and found her to be a strong, female protagonist - true to form, with flaws abound. The story unravelled with interest and intrigue, with twists and turns throughout.

Jane Casey writes a fantastic crime novel and I'm keen to read more of her work. Being married to a criminal law barrister has enabled her to keep her fiction current, realistic and brilliantly executed. Overall, a great crime read that kept me turning the pages late at night. I'm so glad I discovered this new-to-me author.

A murder without a body
Eighteen-year-old Chloe Emery returns to her West London home one day to find the house covered in blood and Kate, her mother, gone. All the signs point to murder.

A girl too scared to talk
Maeve Kerrigan is determined to prove she’s up to her new role as detective sergeant. She suspects Chloe is hiding something, but getting her to open up is impossible.

A detective with everything to prove
No one on the street is above suspicion. All Maeve needs is one person to talk, but that’s not going to happen. Because even in a case of murder, some secrets are too terrible to share…

Utterly gripping - will look out for the other books in the series = well worth reading.

This is my first Marvel Kerrigan book and I loved it. Unlike many of the US crime fictions that are rather far fetched this followed a more realistic and believable story arc. The story kept me gripped and I loved the characters. I've now downloaded the 6 previous books in the series so I can really get to know all the characters.
I've already recommended the books to a friend.

I hadn't read any of the other books in the series but have now done so! Very clever plotting and kept my interest all the way through. The characters were likeable and well drawn and the plot complex but believable.

This was my first Jane Casey/ Maeve Kerrigan book but it won’t be my last so many thanks to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to discover another fabulous author. Police procedural novels are probably my favourite genre and this didn’t disappoint at all, and, although number seven in the series it is also perfect as a ‘stand-alone’ novel. Highly recommended.

I have never read any of Jane Casey's books before, and this is the 7th in the series, but after reading this one I have now added the previous ones to my ever growing TBR list.

The book itself is a really good police procedural book, which I thoroughly enjoyed./

This is the 7th book in the Maeve Kerrigan series and Jane Casey once again delivers a cracking book.

I didn't realise that this was a book in the middle of the series, but it didn't feel like I needed to. Yes the characters weren't introduced and so didn't get a lot of development but the plot made up for it.

It was a fast paced novel with complex twists and an acceptable amount of red-herrings for this type of novel. Other than missing out on some backstory from the different characters, each felt incredibly realistic and none of them were cliche; something that can be difficult when dealing with this novel.

I will definitely be looking into getting into more of Jane Casey's books.

The crime thriller market seems to be a very saturated one at present. Every book promises a twist you won’t see coming. Very few actually deliver, but this does. It also has a very good storyline with believable characters.

This book can be read as a standalone if you have not had the pleasure of reading a Jane Casey offering previously.

A very solid police procedural. Excellent airport thriller.

When Chloe leaves her scheduled visitation with her father and his new family, before her scheduled departure time, she arrives home to a house of horrors. Blood is everywhere, but her mother’s body is nowhere to be found. Chloe is placed with a neighbour whose daughter, Bethany, is her closest friend. The girls are thick as thieves, harbouring teenage secrets no one could guess at. But, Chloe, is an unusual girl, her mother having kept her far too sheltered, which gives her a certain vulnerability due to her isolation, making her a little difficult to draw out, even for Maeve. The suspects are plentiful, with religious zealots, shady neighbours, and Chloe’s stepfamily all holding explosive secrets or playing their own angles. The Rookie in this story was rather annoying.I think although these can be read as standalone I would have preferred reading it from the start so I could grow with this character rather than jumping in book 7. This case is one wild twisted ride, with darker psychological tones to go along with the standard police procedures. The atmosphere was tense right from the get-go and never let up, only intensifying as the case takes some shocking unexpected turns. The ending nearly knocked my socks off. If this one doesn’t send a chill down your spine, I don’t know what will!!

This is the first book I’ve read written by this author. I did enjoy it and I will likely read other books of the series. In fact, even if I do believe that the books can be read separately from the others, there were various mentions throughout which made me wonder about events of previous stories.

I particularly enjoyed the writing style and how I was kept guessing until literally the very end.

Thank you to Netgalley for sending me an e-copy of this book for an impartial review.
