An incredible story in a brilliant series. They just keep getting better.

I've not read any of this series before, but that didn't impact the story for me. You're led through a standard array of possible suspects, as their stories and motives are uncovered, however, it was the unreliable witness that made the story stand out for me. It was a good read, and I'd recommend it.

This is the seventh book in the Maeve Kerrigan Series, though it seems possible to read as a standalone book. If I'm honest, I'd not read any of the other previous titles in this series, though this is likely to change now that I've read "Let the Dead Speak". There were many plot twists and turns which help rank this among the top thrillers I've read this year (and I have read quite a few).

This is the first book i have read in this series.
What can I say "The characters are amazing" with the story keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Well worth a read.

This was the first Jane Casey/Maeve Kerrigan book I've read. I was sad to hear that this was the 7th in the series and realise that I must have missed 6 other great books. I'll definitely be starting the series from book 1 at some point. Even though this was the 7th in a series, at no point did I feel lost in the story or like I'd needed to read the previous parts. It can definitely be read as a stand alone book.

The story had my attention instantly - the action starts pretty much right away, and never really stops. I really was trying to guess the whole way through who had actually 'done it.'

Consistently engaging, I struggled to put this one down. I wasn't expecting the ending at all!

Great psychological thriller.

Eighteen-year-old Chloe Emery returns to her West London home one day to find the house covered in blood and Kate, her mother, gone. All the signs point to murder. Maeve Kerrigan is determined to prove she’s up to her new role as detective sergeant. She suspects Chloe is hiding something, but getting her to open up is impossible. No one on the street is above suspicion. All Maeve needs is one person to talk, but that’s not going to happen. Because even in a case of murder, some secrets are too terrible to share…
A complex plot with many twists and turns, reveals and conceals in abundance, complimented by believable characters, makes for a great police procedural. What’s not to like? It does exactly as it says on the tin.

Really enjoyed the book. Excellent thriller, with believable characters. Really good plot. I hope she writes some more with these characters

When I began reading this book I didn't realise that it was the 7th book of a series and I don't think it mattered that I hadn't read the first six books. I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to catching up with the start of the series soon.

A very well written plot full of half truths and misdirection with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. There were 2 major twists in the book one was easy to spot but the other I didn't see coming - fabulous! I quickly got to know and like the characters and was drawn in from the start. Everything I want from this genre of book. Highly recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought Let the Dead Speak was amazing. I was gripped from the first sentence until I reached the end.

I liked the characters. They are well-written, complex and came across as flesh and blood humans, wonderfully flawed. The villains are not evil or monsters, they are humans, who made terrible mistakes and do terrible things, often misguided.

Let the Dead Speak is full of misdirection and half-truths. I love the kind of books that lead you in about a dozen different directions, one of which lead you to the truth. The plot is complex and much more than it would appear at first, with different storylines connected in ways I never expected. I loved it.

This is a very enjoyable Police procedural crime mystery featuring a female Detective. I have never read this author's work before and I didn't realise this was book 6 or 7 of a series. However, that did not affect my enjoyment of this book and I will probably now seek out the earlier books in the series.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of Let the Dead Speak in return for my personal review. This was, in my opinion, a great read, plots, sub plots and an undercurrent question of certain relationships. I found it realistic, believable and thoroughly addictive. I did have inklings as to who did what but didn't guess the eventual outcome. I recommend.

An exciting murder mystery that will have you on the edge of your chair. The main characters are full of intrigue and with different twists and turns after every page you will not want to put this book down. The author writes with passion and excitement resulting in a plot that develops into something you could never imagine. Highly recommended.

A very gripping page turner. One for fans of girl on the train and I see you. I can’t wait to see what this author produces next!

Excellent police procedural where the dynamic between two of the main characters: Detective Sergeant Maeve Kerrigan and Detective Inspector Josh Derwent really jumps off the page. There have been a number of books previously written which feature these two characters and it might be beneficial to read the series in order to completely understand their backstory. However this is eminently readable as a standalone. I devoured it within two days.

Chloe arrives home from a weekend with her father to find her mother missing and the house they share covered in blood suggesting a really violent event has taken place. There are a satisfying number of suspects and plenty of twists and turns. The author quite clearly knows her stuff and writes very well.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.

I hadn't read any of the previous books in the Maeve Kerrigan series but was immediately hooked.

18 year old Chloe Emery returns home early after visiting her father - and finds blood spattered all over the walls of her home, her cat locked in, her mother missing, but no body. The police assumes her mother, Kate Emery, is the murder victim.

Chloe is taken in by her neighbours, the Norris's and the newly promoted DS Maeve Kerrigan is paired again with Josh Derwent to find out what happened. Nothing is what it seems and Kerrigan and Derwent uncover bit by bit not only Kate Emery's secrets.

We get glimpses into Maeve's and Josh's private life while we follow a rapidly unfolding plot.

I couldn't put it down and have now started with book one in the series - which speaks for itself.

I revceived this book via NetGalley in return for a review.
This was the first Jane Casey book which I have read, however I enjoyed it so much I am going back to read the other 6 in the series to find out how the main characters got to where they are now.
The story starts with Chloe returning home to find her mother missing and her house covered in blood. As the story unfolds all of her neighbours come under suspicion and a sub plot emerges featuring the family of her best friend. If I was Chloe (the main character) I'd take more care picking my friends in future.
Good characterisation, interesting new plot which keeps you gripped to the end.
Highly recommended.
The book is the 7th in a series but happily stands alone.

I didn't realise on getting the book that it was the seventh in a series - but it worked as a stand alone book too, so no harm!
The characters were complex and I think reading the previous books would obviously shed some light, however their relationships (or hints of!) with each other were engaging. The story moved at a good pace and although the ending was a little bit predictable, it was still well written and very dramatic! I could definitely imagine it as a police procedural TV series!
I dropped one star because I guessed the ending but I would recommend this to lovers of a good crime thriller, and I will be adding parts 1-6 to my TBR pile!
