I enjoyed this book. Delores Fossen does a great job at making what seems like it could become an impossible situation, possible. The hero and heroine are very well developed and interesting. I can't wait to read the rest.

Let me begin by admitting that over the past year, I've become a Delores Fossen fan and I was eagerly looking forward to the release of her latest novel, the first in a new series about the community of Wrangler's Creek, and I give Those Texas Nights 4 stars.
There are certain things I've come to expect from from a Delores Fossen novel, the first of which is her charming, quirky, somewhat wacky characters and her outrageous sense of humor, and in this regard she didn't disappoint. The subplot about the feral chickens had me laughing so hard that my sides hurt--I may never look at a chicken the same way again.
We first meet the heroine, Sophie Granger. on her wedding day, where she learns that her prospective groom, Brantly Barnwell, doesn't love her, and leaves her alone at the altar only minutes before the ceremony is scheduled to begin. As if that wasn't enough to ruin her day, she also learns that one of her family's most trusted friends, and the CFO of the family business Sophie expects to be named CEO of, has absconded with all of the family's money and assets--the only item remaining is the family ranch in Wrangler's Creek, which belongs to Sophie's brother, Roman, who has distanced himself from the family for years, and has had nothing to do with the corporation, so his assets are safe.
Still in her bridal gown, Sophie trudges through the mud to confront the new and sexy, interim Chief of Police, Clay McKinnon, who recently took the position after spending the previous decade as a big city policeman, and he's got secrets he doesn't want to share. Additionally, he's as attracted to Sophie as she is to him, and that isn't helped by Sophie's madcap scheme that she and Clay are having a secret affair and she's the one who dropped her fiance instead of him dumping her. Big surprise--Brantwell has dumped Sophie because he's fallen in love with Clay's sister, Alice, who is recently divorced and already a mom with two adorable twin sons.
Madcap is a good term to describe the inhabitant's of Wrangler's Creek, as large a cast of nosy, gossiping, well-intentioned, zany busybodies, both male and female as you can find, and it perfectly describes the plot of this novel, all of which is told with Ms. Fossen's signature sense of the absurd. Add to that, the fortune-telling and very strange, Vita, and her delivery of chicken poop and spell-laden eggs to Clay to help solve his feral chicken problem, Sophie's bookstore-owning friend, Mila, a 30-year-old virgin who is meeting prospective lovers on-line and who's stated kink is wanting to be deflowered during a fantasy role-playing date, the weird and inept guys helping Clay remodel his new old house, and you're in for an uproarious, engaging and sexy read, since Clay and Sophie can hardly keep their hands off one another, so prepare for some hot sex scenes. My only complaint is that while Clay and Sophie strike sparks off one another, they seldom have actual conversations, and spend far too little time with each outside of the bedroom. on the floor, against a wall, in the car, etc. So I found this tale a bit too light on relationship-building, and bit too heavy on the town rumor mill, and the sheer number of quirky residents who populate Wrangler's Creek.
There are mysteries to be solved, unwanted attention to be dealt with, secrets to be revealed, meddlers to be put in their places, and fences to mend in this highly entertaining, fast-paced and funny novel, and I'm guessing that Sophie's brothers will be featured in the upcoming installments in this series. Frankly, I cannot wait.

Those Texas Nights is a new series involving the Granger siblings. Sophie Granger is left at the altar and loses her business all in the same day. Clay is the interim Chief of Police and just wants to make his job permanent and keep an eye on his sister. When she shows up married, his world gets more complicated.
This was a fairly quick read. For the most part, I did enjoy the story. It is filled with some great and quirky characters. I definitely laughed out loud on more than one occasion. I really liked the little town that the author has built into the series. It should make for a lot more entertainment in the coming books.
What I wasn't so sold on was the romance between Clay and Sophie. I felt like a lot of time passed in the book, but I didn't see enough of them together to convince me that they fell in love. There were too many side stories that took away from the main couple. Despite that, this was a fun read and one I would recommend.

Those Texas Nights is a quirky and fun small town romance story that takes a look at the everyday life of the town folks, with its trials and triumphs, drama and celebration.
I was in awe with the wit and cleverness of some of the twists of the language and the unique sayings the author used in the tale. The humor is subtle most of the time, having me laughing out loud on several occasion and unexpectedly.
The characters are somewhat peculiar and definitely one-of-the-kind, yet they demonstrate the human mind and the inner thoughts we rarely share with others in a true and straightforward way, open to everyone to hear and see and gossip about, most of the time even without shame and humiliation. I couldn't help but admire the characters and cheer for them, relate to them and share their pain, fear, passion, and adoration.
The drama and tragedies of the town are told from several different points of view, mainly focusing on the Granger family and McKinnon siblings. From business investigation to everyday illnesses, from fear of losing to loving with all your heart, and everything in between the characters faces their life and destinies head on with full speed.
Both Sophie and Clay have baggage from the past that isn't easy to leave behind and effect their life and decisions of their future. The hurt is still there and it takes an effort and time to heal and make things work out as they are destined to be. The chemistry between them was evident to all, the connection obvious, but that didn't make forming a relationship easy or effortless for them.
Delightful storytelling of charming characters and their lives in a small town Texas where everyone knows each other, where gossip is the way to deliver the news, and where lives, loves, and families find their safe haven to nourish and bloom. I'm looking forward to more in this alluring and whimsical series!
~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side

If you love sweet small town romances served with a large side of humor and drama, then Delores Fossen is your go-to author! THOSE TEXAS NIGHTS has everything you need in an entertaining romance: humor, passion and drama, and is the start to what is sure to be an amazing series.
Sophie Granger may be the princess of Wrangler's Creek but nothing in her life has been royal lately. Ditched by her groom at the altar and discovering that their company is on the brink of ruin is a double whammy of huge proportions. Apparently being seen as a cheater is preferable to being pitied for being jilted, which leads to an outrageous offer from Sophie to the new police chief.
Clay McKinnon moved to Wrangler's Creek for a new start and to keep an eye on his sister and even though he turned down the offer from Sophie, the town isn't done gossiping about them and his reckless younger sister just turned up married to Sophie's ex.
So much for Sophie's life plan and Clay's fresh start. Between them, they have a very full plate to deal with but interfering family and friends and the town grapevine are working overtime to complicate things for them.
I love Delores Fossen's writing and every time I read a book by her, I can't help but wonder how she comes up with her stories and characters because they are everything from quirky to crazy but always entertaining. I laughed so hard I was crying and snorting as I read this book and the dialogue and quips were sometimes snarky but always hilarious.
With a delightful cast of secondary characters, a quick moving story line and great dialogue, THOSE TEXAS NIGHTS is a great way to start the year.
