Easy to read and very enjoyable! I have to admit I wanted to read this on the strength of the title alone. I enjoyed the Vegas setting quite a lot. This was a nice, lowkey thriller. Probably wouldn't read it again though,

I am giving this a neutral rating because I'm sure I'm the problem and not this book!

I gave this the first 25% and unfortunately it wasn't for me. I could not get myself to be interested or care about the character or the murder. Which is unfortunate because I love Frank Sinatra and books about murder. After reading the first quarter of this novel I'm not sure what I read not because it's a difficult read but I could not keep my mind on the story. This is probably all on me and what's going on in the world I am having many issues with finding novels that work for me.

Copper Black works for The Las Vegas Light as the Arts & Entertainment Asst. Editor. She and her boyfriend of 6 months, David, are in love. Problem is that David is still married to Rebecca who just found out that she is pregnant with David's child. Well...

Michael, an Episcopal priest, and Copper's brother, go to The Boney. When old buildings die, the obsolete glitz goes there. (Neon lights, etc.) On a tour bus, Copper meets Marilyn Weaver, the very popular founder of a private prep school for the Arts and Marilyn's niece, Charlene. They get to talking; Marilyn suggests Copper interview some of the students at her school. Curtis Weaver, Marilyn's husband, sets Copper up as a housekeeper for a struggling mansion. He tells her that Colby Nash, the former owner's son, has a a studio in the basement at the present time but should not be a problem.

At Marilyn's school, Copper meets Sean DuBois, Marilyn's son. He only met Marilyn 6 months ago! He had been living with his father on the east coast. Sean asks Copper out for a drink and she agrees to meet him. They had an OK time and he takes her to his parents' place for a swim. As Copper gets into her swimsuit she notices that Marilyn is hanging in the master bedroom! She had accidently picked up Curtis' sunglasses, and a small perfume in her haste to leave after the police (particularly Det. Booth) complete their interrogation.

Det. Booth continually calls and visits Copper with more and yet more questions. She wonders if SHE is being considered to have murdered Marilyn. Copper misses David but he goes back and forth between Copper & Rebecca. Sean becomes acting school director, the upcoming shelter project; spearheaded by Michael, has demonstrations for & against a downtown shelter, Curtis is arrested, and Copper gains a 50 year old turtle.

Copper begins to see trouble with Sean when she arrives at the school to interview two students.

Willie Morningthunder and his focus become closer into play. On the day Copper actually met Willie, Sean sets fire to the mansion and Copper is trapped in the basement. She gets rescued but the consequences are not all that wonderful.

On the day of Marilyn's funeral, Copper is still not quite recovered and has to walk several blocks to attend. A gigantic, heartwarming celebration ensues. Afterward, Copper tells Curtis that she had picked his sunglasses up by accident.....


And then the story heats up.....

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. This is my honest review. I adored this book! Copper Black is my new hero! The zany hi-jinks that abound in this book as well as the twists and turns kept me chuckling and smiling throughout! I can't wait to read more about Copper Black.

This was a real surprise find. I'm a lover of the mystery and crime genre and this is a welcome addition to my collection of fun fast paced crime reads. Edwards has written a well-structured story that keeps you turning the pages as the backstory of Copper Black is woven into the narrative.

This is one of those books where the setting is as much a character as the protagonist Copper Black. Vegas is well drawn as are the human characters and I can't wait to read more about this amateur sleuth!

Copper Black is not your typical Vegas girl, and this is not your typical cozy mystery! Copper Black is an up-and-coming journalist, who is quick-witted, smart, and has delightful spunk ... and she has just uncovered the murder of the decade! This was an immense joy to read, and I just could not put it down! You have a fan for life, Megan Edwards!

A very interesting tale that held my attention all the way through. Great plot, plenty of smiles & the writing kept me hopping! Thanks for the opportunity with this ARC!

A promising start to a new series. A fun blend of mystery, romance with Copper and her slightly dysfunctional family! I am looming forward to more Copper Black Mysteries.

this book was just not my favorite, I could not get into it and it ended up being a dnf.

I liked the mystery and the fact that I couldn't figure out who had done it. It's no fun if you figure everything out at the beginning of the book. What I didn't like was the cast of revolving characters. There were just too many for me, and I had a hard time keeping straight who each person was. I also feel like there was a lot of random information added, that had no real bearing on the actual story. It bogged the book down.

Sinatra and Vegas are undeniably forever entwined. This title may throw you but you'll have a grand time figuring it out. The book starts with a quirky sense of humor which hopefully prepares you for the unsettled ride that follows.
A combination of crime and journalistic pursuits, altruism and the familial entanglements behind the headlines, and several versions of romance gone wrong, there is plenty in this novel for readers of different genres. When things appear at their bleakest, keep on hoping for that silver lining.

An off beat novel of strife and survival, Getting Off On Frank Sinatra is an unexpectedly delightful gamble.

I think I must start off by saying that I really enjoyed this book. We're introduced to Copper Black; our aspiring journalist, just as her boyfriend announces that he is leaving her. Not only does Copper need to find a news story if she has any hope of securing the news column job she so desperately craves, but now she's newly single and trying to piece everything back together in her life..

A house-sitting opportunity offers Copper the perfect escape. A change of scene would do her good and as luck would have it, things seem to slot into place with her work too. A spotlight piece on a local school could be just what she needs, but when she sets up a visit, she ends up getting more than she'd bargained for. Suddenly thrown into the midst of a murder enquiry wasn't quite what Copper had bargained for, but at least it might make a good story...

As someone who has visited Las Vegas and kind of loved it, I enjoyed the references to things I'd seen on my visit, such as the Neon Boneyard, and the Old Hollywood glamour which is woven into the story.

The book is fast-paced and written in an amusing way and was right up my street in terms of the level of humour, so I'll be searching out more Copper Black mysteries for sure.

This is a pretty darn entertaining cozy that benefits not only from the Las Vegas setting but also from a good character in Copper. My quibble would be that there's an awful lot going on in her life. The mystery is not that difficult but that's ok because that's how cozys go. Edwards has a pleasant writing style and a nice sense of plot and timing (always important when there's comedy Involved.) Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC- I'd like to see more from Edwards.

Since I am neither a fan of Frank Sinatra or Las Vegas, I was expecting not to like this book. Something in the synopsis caught me enough to give it a try. I am so glad I did. The protagonist is young with unusual family dynamics. She accepts all the craziness and plows on through life despite her bruises. I hope there will be another story about Copper Black. She has potential.

I read this book in one sitting and LOVED it. This is a lighthearted, entertaining mystery that is sharp, funny and engaging. And that cover!!!! SWOON!!!! Copper Black is a Las Vegas based journalist attempting to rise in the ranks of her profession. While conducting research for a story that she hopes will launch her career, Copper finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and accidently discovers the dead body of the woman she is writing about. A tangled mess of suspects and near misses ensue, as Copper tries to solve the murder while staying out of harm’s way. Megan Edwards writes with wit and spunk and I am hooked. Looking forward to the next installment in the Copper Black Series! 4 out of 5 stars for me.

nice twists and turns. enjoyed this more than expected

The author had me at the title. It's why I grabbed the chance to read this book when I saw it offered on Netgalley. And when our heroine, Copper, explains WHY she uses the phrase, I fell even deeper in love. Yes, I love Las Vegas. In all its tawdry glamour and excess; with slot machines at the airport and in grocery stores; whose showgirls and servers are unionized; as a visitor, a local resident, a tourist and an employee; in its excessive heat and overly chilled rooms, I love Las Vegas. Exploring and exploiting the Hollywood East flavors, savoring the sometimes unsavory past while toying with modern hopes, dreams, schemes and political correctness, Ms. Edwards has created a modern heroine whose talents seem to leave her as beaten up as Sam Spade as she haplessly finds herself in the center of one escapade after another. Why am I not describing more of the plot? That's the part where you pick up the book and read it for yourself--no spoilers here! Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Getting Off on Frank Sinatra sounds really sexy with its double meaning but its actually just a play on words. Its also the theme for Copper Black's life, budding investigative journalist which was just in theory until she stumbles upon a dead body. It all started with her boyfriend getting his soon to be ex-wife pregnant (the soon to be should have warned her). Copper swallowing her disappoint and her sad love life, went on a charity trip for her brother which led her to meeting Marilyn Weaver, prominent personality, which led her to a possible news story, which led her to meeting her son, which led her to a kind of a date with that son, which basically led her to a dead body. The dead body happens to be Marilyn Nash. All the while juggling her love life, while trying to decide on what story to run for her boss so she can get a shot at a new position at her paper. In other words Copper Black is confused and still being dragged unwillingly to solve a murder.

Getting Off On Frank Sinatra is a cozy murder mystery with a female protagonist that is just trying to live her own life drama's without the complication of a little murder. Its pacing is steady, its heroine clueless and its plot is well developed. Its a fun quick read for those who love cozy murder mysteries with an unwilling heroine.
