A beautiful, beautiful book. The first manga that has made me feel like reading the original classic.
The artwork was brilliant as the story was told beautifully. I really loved it!

An acceptable manga adaptation of a classic. The art leaves a bit to be desired, and I just don't see it circulating as a result.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

We start our story in England in the early nineteenth century. Jane Eyre is living with her aunt after the death of her parents. After constantly being treated unkindly by her aunt and cousins, Jane is given the opportunity to attend school, which she immediately takes.

Little did Jane know that school would not be much better. The older children tricked the younger ones out of food, clothes were thin against the cold, and hygiene was sparse. However, she soon finds solace out of new friend, Helen Burns, and teacher, Miss Temple. But nothing good ever stays long for little Jane.

After Jane Eyre finishes school, she becomes a governess at Thornfield. On her way to deliver a message, she helps a man who has fallen off of his horse. Before she can figure out who he is, he leaves.

The poor girl...after finding true love, she is deceived and not all is as it seems. Will things ever go right for Jane? Will she ever find love and happiness?

Jane Eyre has been on my TBR list forever. Not unfortunately, this was my first rendition of it and I loved it! I definitely have to read the original text soon! Honestly, I am more than impressed with the Manga Classics and hope to have my children read these one day!

'The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself.'
-Jane Eyre
The above sentence uttered by Jane herself, reflects her nature like a mirror. Fiercely independent yet soft-hearted, Jane is the ideal heroine and this manga adaptation reveals this sweet nature of hers in an exquisite manner.
The artwork is elegant and expressive. The amount of thought that has gone into the creation of the characters can be felt in every page, nay in every panel. The character of Mr Rochester stays true to the original, depicted as an older man instead of portraying him as the usual impossibly handsome manga males.
The dialogues stay true to the classic, the lines are selected with a lot of care and accentuate the feel that is already set by the artwork.
Overall, an enchanting adaptation that stays true to its original while infusing an already beautiful story with a sweetness that one can savour long after the book is closed.
If manga adaptations are going to be so good, I'll be waiting for the adaptations of my favourite classics, for sure!

This is absolutely something I never would have picked up without Netgalley. I am somewhat of a purist about my classics and I don't always like retellings or reimaginings of them. So I saw this and was intrigued. I liked that it was actually pretty close to the story. Manga is just not something I am usually drawn to, but this was interesting and I liked it just fine. The style of this might help this classic appeal to people who would never pick up the classic version of the story, so that is pretty cool.

I had read Jane Eyre years ago and it became one of my favourite books ever. I loved it so much that when I saw the manga version I was really excited and couldn't wait to revisit Thornfield! I wanted to see if I'll like the manga as much as the original.
I'm so happy that the manga is indeed as impressive as the original. The plot is very accurate and every sequence beautifully impersonates the original with it's gorgeous illustrations.
I like how every character was drawn so accurate to their descriptions. Reading this was a joy to me and I'm so thankful for these manga classics. It's truly a gift to classic and manga lovers and I'm sure people that are hesitant to read classics will surely learn to love them after reading these manga classics.
Thank you Udon Entertainment and NetGalley for this ARC.

Now, I'll admit, I've never actually read Jane Eyre before. I have a copy of it and I'm familiar with the premise, and I've always said I'd get around to it eventually, but anytime I pulled it off my shelf it's just seemed daunting. So for those like me, this was such a nice intro to the classic tale because it didn't feel so cumbersome. The story itself came across very clear and easy to understand and from what I understand, it represented the original quite nicely. Obviously, not every little detail is included in this version, but even with the omissions the story is still pretty easy to follow. Everyone always has a picture in their heads of how they think characters should look, and I feel like this was done really well, and they did a lovely job of capturing the atmosphere of Thornfield Hall also. Overall, I thought it was pretty good.

I’m always looking for new versions and formats of classics to put in students hands and this is one I will definitely be purchasing. Students will love the artwork and retelling of this classic in the manga format!

Once again I find myself wanting to read the original! The artwork in this manga was beautiful and the story's pacing never lagged. I love that these manga classics inspire the reader to read the book the manga was adapted from.

Of course the story was great, I mean, it's Charlotte Bronte. But I just don't like the style of reading from back to front in reverse. It completely throws off my reading pace and makes the entire experience slow and time-consuming.

When I read Jan Eyre I gave it 4 stars. I’d give this manga version the same or maybe .1/2 a star more.

I love classics if I am in the right mood. The language is different. Books that today would be a few hundred pages were generally much longer. It’s just a different experience and if the mood isn’t right they can be daunting.

The Classics Manga series helps make the stories a bit easier to read. It’s a more compact format yet none of the important aspects of the story are lost. Jane still has a rough upbringing, still goes away to a school that leads her to a career as a governess. Still finds herself confused about her feelings for her new boss. Still struggles with who she is and where she belongs.

The art work is perfect for the story.

Overall a great way to introduce younger readers to the classics without overwhelming them or just getting in a reading of a classic yourself when you’re not quite in the mood for the wordier and lengthier originals.

It's been ages since I read Jane Eyre last, so I'd forgotten many of the details (although not the main plot, of course). As all of Stacy King's other Manga Classics it's really well done, but I found myself caring less for Jane than I seemed to remember doing on previous readthroughs... possibly because of the abbreviated storytelling made necessary by the format.

Still gorgeous drawings though, and a nice reminder of an engaging story.

A stunning, vividly beautiful and delightfully faithful portrayal of one of my favourite novels! The Manga Classics series is a joy to read and does such a fantastic job of bringing Jane, Rochester and the tale itself to life!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Actual rate: 4.5

I love the comic, didn't stray from the original book and plot. The exaggeration of Beauty and fights was something that I expected from a comic adaptation. Other than that, this comic is amazing for readers who prefer comics over books -if they wish to read Jane Eyre.

I've been in such a Jane Eyre kick lately! I've read retellings and adaptations galore! This Manga version is very well illustrated and very fun to read. It's always good to revisit Jane (and of course, Mr. Rochester).

I have not read the novel, but after coming across this book I highly doubt it that I ever will, because this one was just so lovely! Great characters, great illustrations that really kept me going on with the read. It was a great first manga that I managed to read and finish!
