Manga Classics' adaptations of classic novels are becoming my new favorite. I read Jane Eyre last year, and since then I have never been over it. Adapting a classic into Manga format is quite challenging, especially since it's not possible to include all the scenes. But Manga Classics did an impeccable job and most importantly the essence of the novel stays intact. If you feel too intimidated to read classics, you can surely opt for this Manga and later read the novel. Getting started with Manga Classics can be a great way to get children into reading classics.

Magna is hard enough to read backwards, but it’s even harder on an e book. The format made it difficult to understand the story as an ebook. The story itself was good, but I think magna needs to be in paper format.

It's been a while since I've read Jane Eyre, but I really liked this adaptation.   It felt like it did the story justice.  It was well designed and carried the story across well.  I was glad to be able to revisit a story I liked as a teen in a way that was shorter and more accessible.

I really enjoyed the art style overall. The illustrator did a good job at drawing the settings and using descriptions from the book to capture the general atmosphere and mood of the work. The illustrations really brought this story to life in a meaningful way.

Jane Eyre is my favorite work of classic literature. I’m happy to say that this is a very accessible edition of the work. It’s an easy read that is mostly true to the original book, and since it is in a manga format, it would likely be less overwhelming for many people to read. The e-book was a little difficult to read since it’s a manga (back to front), but it wasn’t the most difficult.

I only had a few things I disliked about this work. There were some instances of awkward wording throughout the manga (one example was “on equality with them”). Grace Poole was illustrated as a young and beautiful woman, but in the book she is explicitly described as older and not attractive. Similarly, Jane is supposed to be very plain, but she is drawn to be quite lovely. Mr. Rochester isn’t supposed to be handsome at all (major plot point), but he is drawn in a very handsome way. Now it might just be that it’s difficult to create ugly, non-cute characters in a manga style, but I still would have preferred some changes to the depictions of these characters. I also felt that this version wasn’t true to the intent of the book in one place in particular: when St. John proposes to Jane. Jane was firm the whole time about refusing, but in this version she seems to give in for a bit – part of Jane’s character is that she’s firm with what she believes and is true to herself, so I think this was misrepresented in this particular scene of this version.

For anyone who has felt intimidated or uninterested in sitting down and reading Jane Eyre, I highly recommend this version of the work. Except for a few minor things, this is very true to the novel and is a great take on a classic.

I received a complimentary copy of this work through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Well thought out, intriguing characters. Read from being to end without pause. Jane was relatable, and I am so glad she found a happy ending eventually.

Jane Eyre is one of my most favourite classical books. This manga version has officially became my favourite because the illustration is captivating and it captures the true essence of the whole story. I'm so happy that the manga didn't miss any necessary scenes which makes it easier for me to understand the story. I highly recommend everyone to give this manga a shot!

I found this book charming and the artwork really helped tell the story in a way that young readers can appreciate it. The artwork in this book helps them to get a glimpse of the land, being able to picture something helps to immerse themselves in the story. I also appreciated how the book has times where the artwork does the storytelling, there was not a need to use text to cover some of the art, it was enough on its own.

I think this is a great book that can introduce children to some of the classics their parents grew up on.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this lovely book!

I did greatly enjoy this book, the manga had a light and hopeful tone to it, I highly recommend it to introduce the classic Jane Eyre from older children up, the drawings are absolutely adorable, and Jane is a nice role model for both male and female, she relies in herself and at the same time she understands how being in love doesn’t make less of her.

Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Somehow, as a graduated Lit student, I still never read the actual classic Jane Eyre. I read a good 40% of it in high school for an essay, but I skipped the last bit once I had enough to write said essay, since I had plenty of other things keeping me busy then. But I honestly enjoyed the experience of this manga classic so much that I really need to get back to the original version of this story!

I'm overall a big fan of adaptations of classics like this, because I feel like it both brings these classic stories into the 21st century, while also making it easier for more people to read and more accessible over all. The prose of classics is often quite hard and not fun to get through, so having options like this, or other accessible adaptations, can help introduce these classics to a new generation, keeping their stories relevant (though definitely not all classics need this treatment, some deserve to stay in the past!)

I'll definitely be trying more of these Manga adaptations, as I've now read two from this company, and I'd love to experience more classics in this format, both stories I've read before and are entirely new to me!

I read Jane Eyre for the first time a few years ago and fell in love instantly, so when I saw the Manga Classics version of the book I HAD to request it. Manga Classics has never failed me before and didn't fail me this time either. I liked how the story starts when Jane is still a child and not when she meets Rochester as many versions do, and I loved to see her grow up and become the Jane Eyre we all remember best.
The style of the drawings wasn't really my cup of tea as I found Jane had a 'childish' appearance even when adult (meaning she still seemed very young even when fully adult), but the drawings are lovely nonetheless, recommended!

I actually never read the original novel Jane Eyre, but this was a fun way to experience the story. The combination of Japanese art with the old clothes and setting was very fun. I thought the story was told well being combined with manga. Great adaption for a younger audience especially.

Manga Classic that was written with education in mind. There are all kinds of steps taken to help students best understand the story. For me the story was a little long and boring, but this was a good adaptation of the book. I had not read it before the manga. The art was cute and I loved all the extra facts and bonus material.

I had never thought to consume a classic in this format before and I found it to be very interesting as well as refreshing. It makes the story easily digestible and gives more visual readers something to see when they are trying to digest the story. Overall this was a fantastic setup for reading a classic and I can’t wait to get my hands on some more.

This is good if you want to get a gist of the original story without the extra pages. The illustrations were okay. My main issue was that the book had a very dull tone. I was never fully invested in the story. The beginning was very slow. There were a few interesting parts. However, the writing wasn't particularly interesting.

The romance was insta-lovey and random. I didn't like the way Jane was portrayed. Overall, the story just wasn't for me.

Jane thought Mr. Rochester was ugly and didn't like him or his money. Then, all of the sudden, she ran out of choices to make. Proceeds to go back to him and finds he lost his hand, an eye, & his eye-site. His mansion also got burnt. All of a sudden he is attractive and she marries him. Seems like a little bit of a power trip to me.

This manga wasn't very accessible as an e-book but after reading it backwards and upside down ;) I enjoyed this retelling of Jane Eyre. The odd thing was that in the book the characters both call themselves "plain" and "ugly" but they're drawn in the manga style so of course they are gorgeous ;) I also enjoyed the author's addition of her process of creating the manga version, and the history of aspects of their lives in England at that time (for example, the role of a governess). All in all it was an novel version of a book I really enjoy.
