A chilling read that will keep you gripped.
Tracy also battling personal issues in the reminder other missing sister, this case brings things to the surface for her.

I can’t say what made me request this particular book…perhaps just the gruesome description of the murder at the heart of the story. After the chilling beginning, there is a long, slow police procedural which was a bit of a slog at times. The buildup and ending were ok, despite the plot becoming convoluted and sporting a couple of holes.

When a woman’s body is discovered submerged in a crab pot in the chilly waters of Puget Sound, Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself with a tough case to untangle. Before they can identify the killer, Tracy and her colleagues on the Seattle PD’s Violent Crimes Section must figure out who the victim is. Her autopsy, however, reveals she may have gone to great lengths to conceal her identity. So who was she running from?

After evidence surfaces that their Jane Doe may be a woman who suspiciously disappeared months earlier, Tracy is once again haunted by the memory of her sister’s unsolved murder. Dredging up details from the woman’s past leads to conflicting clues that only seem to muddy the investigation. As Tracy begins to uncover a twisted tale of brutal betrayal and desperate greed, she’ll find herself risking everything to confront a killer who won’t go down without a deadly fight.

Dugoni is one of the best writers today, and he has delivered a taut, riveting thriller in the fourth installment of his acclaimed Tracy Crosswhite series. Highly recommended.

Robert Dugoni is a favorite of mine and this book does an amazing job of confirming why I love his Tracy Crosswhite series as much as I do. From the very beginning, when the woman's body is found, the action begins and never lets up in this page turning mystery thriller. It will be hard pressed for Dugoni to out do himself in his future books!

Wow. This book will surprise you and will definitely leave you still hooked. I kept on getting interrupted by other things and found myself impatiently waiting to get back to this book. I was on the fence initially but this book picked up speed and became one of my 2019 top reads for me. The suspense, the hidden secrets, the twists... get this book. You won't regret it.

Police procedure driven mystery.

A young person finds a body in the water where he’s fishing. But not is all as it seems.

On further investigation they find that this woman had gone to great lengths to disguise herself, but why?

I found the story enthralling and captivating. What urges me on to continue to read we’re finding answers to my ever piling of questing sin my mind.

Yet again, this is not an easy case for the DI as it floods back the death of her sister. Her emotional turmoil can be felt through the pages.

Yet another great read from this author in this pounding series.

In this fourth outing with Tracy Crosswhite, we are once again taken for a twisting and turning crime investigation, this time, trying to work with another officer in a different jurisdiction.
A teenager is doing some illegal crab fishing and pulls up someone else's crab pot. As he attempts to see what is in it to make it so heavy, he drops it back in the water with shock. There is a body, a woman's body based on the blue nails, in the pot. Once the police arrive it is confirmed that the body is a woman, and she hasn't been down there long. Finding her so quickly is fate, as the assumption was that the murderer never expected her to be seen again. They soon believe the body is a woman that disappeared several months ago while climbing a mountain with her husband, but was assumed dead. Enter another police jurisdiction who wants the case, as it was their missing person case in the beginning. Trying to deal with them, Nolasco, and all the roadblocks leaves Tracy and her team with a huge puzzle to solve.

The story is told from two different perspectives. Andrea Strickland, the victim tells her story, and Tracy narrates from the investigation side. It works quite well. We see Tracy trying to deal with a case that reminds her too much of her sister's murder. Is she making decisions based on emotions? She is balancing work with her relationship with her boyfriend Dan. I enjoyed seeing her personal life scattered throughout the story, and that things seem to be working out for her and Dan. , and I loved the little glimpses we got into their happy life. A fine addition to the Tracy Crosswhite series. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something happened and it went in a completely new direction. If you enjoy a twisty story with crime investigations, a bit of a personal glimpse into the police detectives lives, then you will love not only this book, but the whole Tracy Crosswhite series.

This is the 4th book in a series about Tracy Crosswhite, a detective in Washington state. The author does a great job playing the story forward while giving enough backstory to remember what is going on with all the characters. This one had some scenes with her work "family" and I really enjoyed that. In this book he also referenced some real places in Washington, like Mt Ranier and had some information about climbing which I found very interesting. The mystery in this one kept me wondering and reassessing my theories all the way up to the end. The ending was high excitement and the epilogue will make Tracy fans smile. These are alwasy a good choice to read.

The fourth in the series, the book has Tracy Crosswhite in the lead. The book starts with the discovery of a dead body in a crab pot. The book is about the discovery of who the dead body is, the reason of her death and the culprit for the same. Simultaneously, the book further talks about Tracy's life. A progression from the previous three books. .
.
I honestly loved the Crosswhite series right from the first book. The previous books are dedicated to different crimes but largely deal with the murder of her sister. It's a truly enjoyable experience to read a series. It's like watching a show with your favourite characters in it. A little clichè, the characters are quite lovable and pretty good at their job just the same! The book was unpredictable and I kept thinking I knew where it was going until I was totally thrown off by what actually happens!
One of the characters is an ardent reader and her love for books plays largely in the story! I was really looking forward forward to how it all would come together- I was partly relieved and part disappointed with this particular angle. .
.
Overall, reading this book was like going back to a comfortable place! It kept me hooked but it doesn't have this urgent mad pace that some other books have. You can enjoy it at a slower pace while not getting bored. If you are looking for a light thriller- do check out this series by the Author.

I received an ARC from Netgalley. I have read all the novels in this series. I am a big fan of the main character. This book was better than the last installment. Tracy and her team try to find out how a young woman ended up murdered, stuffed in a crab pot and dump in the Puget Sound.

One of my complaints about the last book was the lack of Dan's presence and there were two mysteries. This entry brings Dan back and focuses on one really good mystery. Plenty of players to keep you guessing.

I got given an ARC of this book for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in the Tracey Crosswhite series, they are a compelling read with a strong lead who has seen more than her own share of troubles. I had high expectations of this book and Robert Dugoni did not disappoint. Throughout the book there are twist and turns and my mind was coming up with many scenarios, feeling smug that I had to have thought of all the options to the plot line. Oh how wrong I was. What a brilliant twist in the tale! I was gripped to the edge of my seat throughout wandering what was going to happen next. I have to admit the last few chapters grabbed my attention to such an extent that I gave up Christmas shopping and ordered a second and third coffee just to be able to keep reading until I finished the book! Can't wait for the next book in the series, this author never disappoints.
P.S. I did start to feel that the lead character, Detective Tracey Crosswhite seemed to always get the cases that she could relate to with the disappearance and murder of her sister, however, the author makes a nod to this and actually questions her motives in wanting to stick with the case, and maybe over stepping her bounds as a result of it. It still sits slightly uncomfortably with me that all her cases she can relate to for whatever reason, but I can live with this in light of the excellent story telling and gripping story line.

I've discovered that this series gets better and better with each new book. This is hands down my favorite so far but I have a feeling I'll be making that statement again when I finish the next one. I never once thought I had this one figured out, it literally kept me guessing until the very last second. And I can tell ya, I could have drawn all of the conclusions that I wanted and I would have been so far off.

She is the best detective!! Another great read in this series.

So every time I end a book in this series, I am surprised. Why is that? Because Robert Dugoni can keep a reader interested and on their toes the entire book. I love seeing the oddities in Tracy's cases and that background part of her life play out. This time, Tracy is investigating a dead girl caught in a fishing trap at the same time a woman is declared missing after going hiking. One could put 2 and 2 together and get the answer but it is conveniently not what you expect. On the personal side, we see Tracy and Dan discuss a part of their life that was thought to be unreachable: a family that doesn't just consist of the two of them and the pets. I am so excited to keep reading this series to see where Mr. Dugoni takes us!

Detective Tracy Crosswhite and her partner get a call-out for a body found in a crab pot that has been found by a teenager who is crabbing out of season. Never mind that, Fish and Game will deal with him. Tracy and Kins, however, are stuck with finding a name to go with the dead body. Fortunately, they get lucky when they are able to trace the facial reconstruction of the victim back to the doctor who did the surgery via identifying marks on the implants. The doctor tells them her name is Lynn Hoff and she paid cash for the surgery. And then it gets weird. Lynn Hoff doesn't really exist...but the name traces back to Andrea Strickland, a woman missing off Mount Rainier, who went hiking with her husband and never returned. As Tracy, Kins, and the rest of their team continue their investigation, it gets more and more complicated: the husband is a jerk and could have murdered Andrea; Andrea's best friend, Devin, is also missing and she could have murdered Andrea for her trust fund. There were a lot of moving parts to this plot and Dugoni handled them all well. And the payoff? You will never guess who the villain is! Tracy is a great character and this book gives the reader a look at her life outside her work. Well-written and great plotting.

I received a free ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

It took me a couple tries to get into this book and I’m so glad that I gave it a fair chance. The book was slow to start and it didn’t grab me in the beginning. The third time I sat down to read it, I forced myself to keep going and I am glad I did.

A body that is thought to be a missing hiker is found in a crab trap. When the hiker went missing, foul play by her husband was presumed. The husband had quit his job and taken out a loan to start a business that was failing and they were hemorrhaging money. It is discovered that the wife has a trust fund. The reader follows Tracy and her colleagues as they investigate the case.

The book was very interesting and kept me guessing. Once I have it a fair chance, I was sucked in. My only complaint is that the female officer is the only one continually referred to by her first name rather than her last name like her male colleagues it just felt a bit demeaning.

i didn't realise until I finished reading that this book is the fourth in a series. Please do not let that put you off. This is a great read. I could not put this down once I started it. I was so impressed I intend on reading the first few books.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.

I thought this book was going to be amazing and it was. I loved Detective Tracy Crosswhite, what a great character. My only downside is I had not read the previous three books, I will have to do that now. Lots of action and twists and turns, a great storyline and I was pleased with the ending of the book. Finished this book in one day, it was that good.

I will definitely be checking out the previous and next books in the series.

Oh, I knew how I wanted this story to end. I wanted a happy ending. That's hard to do when the person you're rooting for may be dead or may be a murderer or may be a psychopath or....Dugoni weaves the story from both the perspective of detective Crosswhite and that of one of the victims. We're in the head of the woman back before the body in the crab pot is found. As the investigation moves forward, and more questions than answers are found, we learn more about the life, and thinking process, of the woman they're investigating. And damn it, I didn't want her to die. Gah.

The investigation takes many different directions as the detectives work to uncover the identity of the woman in the pot, who killed her and why, where is the murderer, and what exactly happened and when and where. The when and where become even more important when another police department claims jurisdiction. Crosswhite and team are reluctant to give up the investigation and fight to keep it. Their captain, with whom Crosswhite has an antagonistic relationship at the best of times, is not exactly supportive and the team bends a few rules and procedures as they conduct the investigation and fight for it. While all this is going on, Crosswhite's love life also takes a turn and she has to deal with that too.
Dugoni's storytelling just may have hit peak with this story as the blend of plot, story, characters, and action are near perfect. He moves neatly from putting you smack in the middle of an interview or other procedure to putting you in the middle of a character's head or heart. The team is a strong one and a close-knit one. They have their disagreements but they always pull together and watch out for each other. The series is Crosswhite's but her team is the framework that allows her to shine.

While this, and all of the books, work fine as stand-alones, you'll better appreciate the characters if you read in order. And why not start at the beginning as this series is just wonderful; full of complex stories and characters and rich detail. One book left and I'm both looking forward to it and sad that the series is ending.

A favorite quote:

"You said we were family," Faz said. "This is what family does. We do dumbass shit, but we do it together."
